Title: Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary

The HR Generalist plays a critical role indelivering comprehensive human resources support across the organization. Serving as a trusted partner to employees and managers, this position is responsible for full-cycle recruitment, employee relations, policy administration, performance management, and compliance with applicable employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and institutional policies.

The ideal candidate is a proactive HR professional with strong judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to navigate complex employee matters with discretion and consistency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support employee relations activities, including investigations, coaching, mediation, and conflict resolution, in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.
  • Serve as a resource to managers and employees on collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes to ensure a positive and compliant employee experience.
  • Administer HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistent, equitable, and legally compliant application.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity within the HRIS.
  • Support performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, corrective action, and disciplinary processes.
  • Assist with compliance initiatives related to federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Participate in HR projects, training initiatives, and organizational development efforts.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional goals.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Three to five years of progressive human resources experience
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex employee matters professionally and effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or public-sector settings
  • Experience with HRIS systems and coordination with payroll and benefits functions

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000
