Position Location:
This position will be located at the Michould Assembly Facility, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Job Overview:
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and operates HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) systems and related equipment, including compressors, pumps, condensers, piping, motors, controls, and air distribution systems. Performs operational testing, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs to support safe and efficient system operations.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties:
- Lay out, install, maintain, and repair refrigeration machinery, auxiliary equipment, piping, and HVAC/R systems
- Adjust and regulate valves, controls, thermocouples, and thermostats to balance system operations
- Inspect refrigeration and HVAC/R systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic controls, to identify defects or malfunctions
- Overhaul and rebuild refrigeration equipment, including valves, springs, couplings, piping, and related components
- Load refrigeration mediums such as Freon and ammonia into refrigeration systems as required
- Perform sheet metal work associated with air conditioning duct systems
- Analyze equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Replace mechanical and electrical components, including fuses, heat elements, control units, and thermostats
- Operate and monitor built-up air conditioning and refrigeration systems during startup, shutdown, and normal operations
- Perform alignment checks and operational testing to ensure proper equipment performance
- Use hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instruments to complete maintenance and repair activities
- Instruct and assist lower-graded employees as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key Responsibilities:
- Support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of HVAC/R systems and equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational system issues
- Read and interpret maintenance blueprints, sketches, specifications, and technical documentation
- Maintain compliance with applicable safety procedures, operational standards, and certification requirements
- Support team operations through professional conduct, communication, and collaboration
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, operational performance, efficiency, and customer service
- Support operational schedules, peak workloads, and surge requirements as needed
Job Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Up to 5 years of HVAC/R or refrigeration maintenance experience
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance blueprints, sketches, specifications, and technical documents
- Ability to use advanced shop mathematics, precision measuring instruments, testing devices, and hand tools
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair refrigeration and HVAC/R systems and components
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work outside normal schedules and adjust work hours to support operational requirements
- Professional conduct and adherence to workplace safety standards
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications applicable to the position
- Valid driver’s license when operation of company vehicles is required
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of refrigeration mechanics and HVAC/R system operations
- Experience using a variety of testing devices, diagnostic tools, and precision measuring equipment
- Experience performing sheet metal work and air distribution system repairs
- Experience supporting industrial, facility, or plant maintenance operations
Working Conditions:
- Work performed in industrial, facility, and mechanical environments with exposure to grease, oil, dirt, vibration, heat, cold, noise, and moving equipment
- May require indoor and outdoor work in varying environmental conditions
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate physical effort required for sustained periods while handling light- and medium-weight parts and equipment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and work around mechanical equipment and systems
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required
