About RIVUS ConsultingRIVUS Consulting is a successful small engineering and environmental consulting firm providing engineering, environmental, and program-management services to public-sector clients. Our work spans planning, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater and drainage design, environmental permitting, construction management, inspection, GIS, asset management, and infrastructure program delivery.  RIVUS has extensive experience supporting municipal stormwater, drainage, flood mitigation, MS4, stream restoration, and other public infrastructure programs throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.Position OverviewRIVUS Consulting is seeking a Hydraulic / Water Resources Engineer with a strong background in hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) to support stormwater, drainage, floodplain, watershed, and infrastructure projects in the Baltimore area.  The ideal candidate will have at least five years of relevant engineering experience and demonstrated proficiency using InfoWorks ICM for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. The position will involve development, calibration, review, and application of hydraulic models to evaluate existing drainage systems, identify flooding and capacity constraints, and develop infrastructure improvement alternatives.  The engineer will work with RIVUS project managers and multidisciplinary teams on municipal and public-sector assignments involving stormwater management, drainage improvements, flood mitigation, watershed studies, and related infrastructure projects.  Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred but not required.Key Responsibilities
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for stormwater, drainage, watershed, and flood-mitigation projects.
  • Develop, update, troubleshoot, and analyze PCSWMM and InfoWorks ICM models.
  • Model storm-drain systems, channels, culverts, storage facilities, surface flooding, and interconnected drainage networks.
  • Evaluate existing drainage-system capacity and identify hydraulic deficiencies, bottlenecks, and flood-prone locations.
  • Develop and evaluate alternatives for drainage and flood-mitigation improvements.
  • Prepare drainage-area delineations, design-storm analyses, flow calculations, hydraulic profiles, and technical documentation.
  • Analyze existing and proposed stormwater-management facilities and drainage infrastructure.
  • Support preparation of engineering reports, technical memoranda, calculations, exhibits, and presentations.
  • Assist with development of conceptual and final engineering designs.
  • Coordinate modeling results with GIS, survey, CAD, and engineering design information.
  • Support stormwater-management, erosion and sediment control, and drainage design assignments.
  • Review plans, models, calculations, and supporting technical information prepared by others.
  • Assist project managers with agency coordination and responses to technical review comments.
  • Participate in field investigations and drainage-system assessments as needed.
  • Maintain organized model files, calculations, assumptions, and supporting documentation in accordance with project QA/QC procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, stormwater, floodplain, or water-resources engineering.
  • Demonstrated H&H modeling experience.
  • Experience using InfoWorks ICM required.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, StormCAD, SewerGEMS, HydroCAD, or similar H&H software.
  • Strong understanding of closed-conduit and open-channel hydraulics, storm-drain systems, runoff hydrology, and drainage-system analysis.
  • Experience analyzing municipal stormwater or drainage infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret survey data, drainage plans, record drawings, GIS information, and engineering plans.
  • Strong analytical, technical-writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with stormwater-management design.
  • Experience preparing or supporting drainage, SWM, and flood-mitigation design plans.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads Designer.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, StormCAD, SewerGEMS, HydroCAD, or similar H&H software.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Maryland stormwater-management, erosion and sediment control, and floodplain requirements.
  • Experience supporting Baltimore City, Baltimore County, MDOT SHA, or other Maryland public-sector clients.
  • Experience with model calibration using observed rainfall, flow, depth, or monitoring data is desirable.
Professional DevelopmentRIVUS offers an opportunity for an experienced engineer to deepen their technical expertise in advanced hydraulic modeling while gaining exposure to complex municipal stormwater, drainage, flood-mitigation, and infrastructure programs.  The position provides a path toward greater technical leadership, task management, project management, and eventual professional licensure for candidates who wish to pursue those responsibilities.

Flexible work from home options available.
