Hydroponic Freight Farm Capacity Building VISTA

Connecticut Foodshare is the state''s only Feeding America food bank. We support individuals and families - from one end of the state to the other - by addressing root causes, creating long-term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs in an effort to alleviate hunger. The goal of the VISTA project is to reduce poverty by increasing the capacity of Connecticut Foodshare's network of 500 partner programs to provide better access to food and related services; allowing food insecure households maximize their limited resources. This position requires someone with excellent verbal, interpersonal, written, and communication skills. The VISTA must be comfortable in independent and collaborative work environments, looking to make a huge impact in our community, be a good problem solver, possess confidence when working with others, have the ability to teach and train, and be resourceful and creative. The VISTA must be proficient in digital media and Microsoft Office products: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel skills. The VISTA must have a passion for helping others with dignity and creating a thriving community free of hunger. This role will enrich the member professionally and personally while serving a 7-year Top Workplace award winner. Member Duties : This volunteer will build Connecticut Foodshare's capacity to provide a reliable supply of nutritious leafy greens to Connecticut residents experiencing poverty and food insecurity. The production method is on site freight farms where produce is grown hydroponically. The members will develop reusable training, nutrient testing protocols, yield reporting tools, standard operating procedures, community volunteer training tools, and donor education resources that staff and volunteers can continue using after the service year. These systems are intended to strengthen food access by improving production reliability, reducing avoidable losses, and sustaining community resources.
