Tesla s Cell Infrastructure team is looking for an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Technician to be an integral part of the team responsible for commissioning controls at our battery production facility in Gigafactory Texas. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and collaboration with stakeholders. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliable operation of control systems and instrumentation, contributing to the efficiency and safety of the facility. This role has a travel expectancy of 25%.
Perform quality inspections to confirm scopes of work are installed per design drawings and specifications
Configure, calibrate, and perform loop checks on a variety of instrumentation, equipment and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and actuators
Work closely with manufacturing team to coordinate PLC programming, process function, and HMI screen development. Perform VFD configuration, motor IDs, and networking. Support the commissioning team during start-up, functional testing, and operations.
Use completion tools to track progress and issues of instrumentation devices throughout the project
Collaborate with the I&C Project Manager to develop commissioning plans, communicate progress, identify risks, and coordinate resources
Utilize completions management software to complete checklists and track punchlist items
Minimum 10 years experience in controls installation and commissioning with 5 years in a supervision position
Technical degree or certification in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, or equivalent experience
Experience commissioning high-tech industrial process controls including but not limited to: pumps, motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs. Proficient in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. Strong understanding of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies
Able to interpret plans, C&E Matrix, Control Narratives, Wiring Diagrams, SLD's, PFD's and P&ID's
Proficient with Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, V18; additional experience with Ignition and Allen Bradley PLCs is preferred. Strong skills in troubleshooting motor controls, drives, and electronic components and proficient in using hand tools, electrical meters, and testing equipment
An uncompromising safety mindset, LOTOV experience, and NFPA 70E Certification
Ability to work at high elevations (up to 60ft) and lift at least 50 lbs. regularly, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, and twist and bend the body. Must be able to work using a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
