Job/Position Summary
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of industrial coating operations, including surface preparation, coating application, quality assurance, production scheduling, environmental compliance, and personnel management. Ensures products are coated according to customer specifications, industry standards, safety requirements, and production deadlines while maintaining operational efficiency and cost control.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and manage daily coating operations to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Supervise and coordinate coating department personnel, including painters, blasters, technicians, and lead operators.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with coating specifications, work instructions, and industry standards.
- Oversee surface preparation, blasting, coating application, curing processes, and final inspections.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and coating requirements to ensure proper execution.
- Manage coating material inventories and coordinate ordering of paints, solvents, abrasives, and related supplies.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for coating operations.
- Conduct inspections and audits to verify coating thickness, adhesion, appearance, and overall quality.
- Investigate coating defects and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable environmental regulations.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies and safe work practices.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
- Work closely with production, engineering, quality assurance, and customer service teams to achieve operational goals.
- Prepare operational reports, production metrics, and departmental budgets.
- Participate in customer audits and support quality certifications.
- Lead employee training, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervise coating supervisors, lead painters, coating technicians, sandblasters, and other assigned personnel.
- Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet production demands.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and ability requirements)
- Thorough knowledge of industrial coating systems and surface preparation methods.
- Understanding of coating inspection techniques and quality standards.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production scheduling.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to analyze production data and implement process improvements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software systems.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial coating experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience with liquid coatings, powder coating, blasting operations, or specialty protective coatings preferred.
- AMPP Level 3 Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk production areas for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas.
- Frequently required to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators as needed.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial environments.

Compensation
This position offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, and demonstrated performance. The starting pay rate or salary range for this position is determined based on factors including education, relevant experience, certifications, market conditions, and internal equity.
In addition to base compensation, employees may be eligible for merit increases, incentive compensation, bonuses, or other forms of additional pay, where applicable and authorized by the Company.
PESCO reserves the right to modify compensation programs, pay structures, and incentive plans at its discretion and in accordance with applicable laws. Employment with the Company is at-will and nothing contained in this job description should be construed as a guarantee of compensation, employment, or future earnings.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $145,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Standard Working Hours and Conditions
Hours: Typically 6:30 am to 4:00 pm; flex hours as needed to support all shifts and schedules; additional hours may be required based on operational needs.
Days: Monday–Friday; occasional evening or weekend availability may be required based on business needs.
Environment: Manufacturing and industrial production environment.
- Exposure to paint, solvents, blasting media, noise, dust, and manufacturing equipment.
- May require occasional overtime, weekends, or on-call availability to meet production requirements.
