Job Description

Immediate need for a talented Industrial Engineering Technician. This is a 06 Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Costa Mesa, CA (Onsite). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Job ID:26-34781

Pay Range: $40 - $50/hour.  Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:
  • This is a floor-first, measurement-driven role.
  • We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented technician or operator who is curious about how production systems work, motivated to learn industrial engineering methods, and excited about the idea that their observations and measurements directly shape how We builds at scale.
  • You need sharp eyes, strong work ethic, comfort with data, and a genuine interest in understanding and improving manufacturing processes.
  • You will spend the majority of your time on the production floor: observing operations, conducting time studies, recording cycle times, documenting process steps, detailing workstation and line layouts in CAD, and collecting the production data that feeds line balancing, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
  • You will work under the direction of Industrial Engineers and IE Leads, learning IE methodology on the job while delivering the precise, reliable measurement work that the team depends on.
  • The right person for this role has hands-on manufacturing experience — you’ve built, assembled, or operated on a production floor and you understand how work actually gets done at the station level.
  • You’re the kind of person who notices when a process step takes longer than it should, who asks why the material is staged where it is, and who wants to understand the system beyond your own workstation.
  • You are meticulous with data, comfortable with computers and basic software tools, and looking to grow into industrial engineering.
  • Time Studies and Labor Standards- Conduct stopwatch time studies on manufacturing operations under the direction of an Industrial Engineer — observing operators, recording element-level cycle times, documenting process steps, and noting variation, delays, and abnormalities.
  • Perform video-based time studies: set up cameras, record operations from appropriate angles, and assist IEs with video review, element breakdown, and time extraction.
  • Record and organize time study data accurately using standardized templates and data collection tools — ensuring observations are complete, legible, and traceable.
  • Conduct work sampling studies to measure utilization, categorize activities (value-added, non-value-added, wait time), and quantify how operators and equipment spend their time across a shift.
  • Support the maintenance of labor standards in the central repository — entering validated times, updating records when processes change, and flagging standards that appear outdated or inconsistent with observed performance
  • Layout Detailing and Spatial Data- Detail production line and workstation layouts in CAD (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or equivalent) under the direction of an IE — drawing station arrangements, material staging areas, aisle paths, equipment footprints, and flow diagrams to scale.
  • Conduct floor measurements: measure workstation dimensions, aisle widths, equipment clearances, material storage areas, and operator movement paths using tape measures, laser distance tools, and other measurement instruments.
  • Maintain and update existing layout drawings as production lines change — adding new equipment, adjusting station positions, and ensuring drawings reflect the current state of the floor.
  • Build and maintain elements in the central CAD shape library — drawing standard workbenches, tables, racks, carts, and equipment to accurate dimensions for reuse across layout projects.
  • Create spaghetti diagrams and operator movement maps by observing and recording travel paths, distances, and frequencies to support material flow and layout optimization analysis.
  • Line Balancing and Production Analysis Support- Collect and organize the data that feeds line balancing analysis: task times by station, operator assignments, work content breakdowns, and takt time calculations.
  • Build and maintain line balance charts and visualizations under IE direction — updating station loading, flagging imbalances, and tracking changes as production scales.
  • Assist IEs with basic production data analysis: pulling data from MES, compiling throughput and cycle time reports, building charts and trend graphs, and formatting data for IE review and presentation.
  • Track and report Core 4 metrics data (labor hours per unit, line balance efficiency, throughput, units per square foot) by collecting inputs from production records, time studies, and floor observations.
  • Support continuous improvement projects by collecting before-and-after measurements, documenting process changes, and helping quantify the impact of improvements.
  • Floor Presence and Process Observation- Spend most of your time on the production floor — building relationships with operators and supervisors, understanding the work firsthand, and maintaining the floor credibility that accurate measurement depends on.
  • Observe and document manufacturing processes end-to-end: process steps, material handling, tool usage, workstation setup, and the practical realities of how work gets done versus how it is documented.
  • Identify and flag process variation, ergonomic concerns, material flow issues, and other observations to the IE team — bringing a trained eye and production-floor perspective to things that might not show up in data alone.
  • Support IE projects with hands-on setup: arranging workstations for layout trials, marking floor tape for cell reconfigurations, setting up measurement equipment, and assisting with pilot builds during line design changes.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • 2 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment — as a production technician, assembler, operator, manufacturing technician, or similar floor-based role.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and comfort with measurement and data — you are precise, organized, and take accuracy seriously.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software (Excel or Google Sheets, word processing, email) — able to enter data, build simple charts, and work with spreadsheets.
  • Ability to read technical documentation: work instructions, assembly drawings, process flow diagrams, and basic facility or layout drawings.
  • Strong observational skills — you notice how work is performed, where time is lost, and where processes deviate from the plan.
  • Effective communication skills — able to explain what you observed clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and comfortable working with operators, supervisors, and engineers.
  • A genuine interest in industrial engineering, production optimization, and understanding how manufacturing systems work.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around a production floor for extended periods, and to work in a manufacturing environment with standard PPE requirements.
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in a relevant field (Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or similar) — or equivalent additional work experience.
  • Prior exposure to time studies, work measurement, or labor standards in any capacity — even informal experience timing operations, tracking cycle times, or building process documentation.
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, or similar) for drawing layouts, floor plans, or workstation arrangements — even at a basic level.
  • Experience with data collection tools, tablets, or handheld devices used for production tracking or quality inspection.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts: 5S, waste identification, value-added vs. non-value-added work, basic process flow mapping.
  • Experience with MES, ERP, or production tracking systems (data entry, work order completion, time tracking).
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-mix, complex manufacturing environments.
  • Basic familiarity with statistical concepts: averages, variation, sample size — enough to understand why we take multiple observations and what the numbers mean.
  • A track record of self-directed learning — evidence that you pursue knowledge beyond your current role, whether through coursework, certifications, side projects, or on-the-job initiative.
  • Active security clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
