What a winning day looks like
You start with a quick review of active projects and quality plans, then walk the floor to observe welding and mechanical fit-up in real time. You verify procedures, review drawings and P&IDs with Engineering, coordinate NDT scheduling, and coach craft teams on documentation and traceability. In the afternoon, you close out inspections, issue or clear NCRs, brief Project Managers on quality status, and prepare for an upcoming customer audit. By day’s end, every measurement is recorded, every weld is traceable, and every specification is accounted for.
Core Impact Areas
- Develop, implement, and continually refine QA/QC procedures and project-specific quality plans.
- Lead in-process and final inspections across fabrication, manufacturing, and construction phases.
- Review and validate drawings, specifications, P&IDs, ITPs/quality plans, and customer requirements.
- Inspect fabricated parts, piping systems, structural assemblies, welds, and mechanical equipment.
- Confirm compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and internal quality standards.
- Oversee welding quality: verify WPS/PQR, welder qualifications, and required documentation.
- Coordinate required testing and inspections, including NDT/NDE, and witness as needed.
- Maintain complete inspection reports, certifications, MTRs, material identification, and traceability.
- Identify, document, and track nonconformances; issue and manage NCRs through closure.
- Drive root-cause analysis and execute corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Production, Construction, vendors, and customers on quality requirements and deliverables.
- Conduct supplier and vendor quality inspections or audits when required.
- Ensure measurement and inspection equipment is controlled, maintained, and calibrated.
- Participate in customer and third-party inspections and audits; prepare and respond to findings.
- Monitor quality from initial fabrication through final inspection, testing, and turnover.
- Champion continuous improvement across shop and field operations.
- Coach employees and subcontractors to understand and meet defined quality expectations.
Qualifications
- Proven QA/QC experience in an industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, mechanical, or construction environment.
- Prior supervisory or quality management background strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of industrial fabrication and construction processes.
- Hands-on exposure to welding, piping, structural steel, mechanical equipment, and/or industrial systems.
- Skilled at reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
- Knowledge of inspection methods, documentation practices, and material traceability controls.
- Familiarity with AWS, ASME, ASTM, ISO, or similar industry standards is advantageous.
- Experience managing NCRs, corrective actions, and root-cause investigations.
- Exceptional attention to detail, documentation discipline, and problem-solving ability.
- Effective communicator and team leader; proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic quality/document control systems.
Preferred Certifications / Experience
Experience or credentials such as AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), NDT, ISO quality systems, ASME standards, welding inspection, mechanical inspection, or industrial fabrication are highly desirable.
