At BAC, you will set the bar for safety, quality, and innovation while mentoring junior mechanics and stepping in as a station or team lead when called.
What challenges will you take on?
- Can you read submittals, fabrication sheets, and assembly lists and translate them into precise plasma cut operations on galvanized and stainless panels?
- Will you apply MIG procedures to produce critical weldments, including corner and connection welds that are water-tight on galvanized and stainless materials?
- Are you prepared to maintain accuracy and pace, avoid lost time by following safety rules and breaks, and keep productivity high?
- Can you mentor Mechanic II and III welders, document processes, and communicate department metrics clearly?
- Will you lead the team when needed, sustain 5S, and drive continuous improvement and innovation?
- Can you help the department hit safety, quality, and productivity goals like near-miss reporting and FPY, while advancing sustainability by minimizing waste and optimizing energy and water use?
- Are you ready to flex across stations and functions and take on other duties as assigned?
How you will partner and lead
Reporting to a Team Leader, Station Leader, or designated supervisor, you will provide hands-on leadership, mentor junior mechanics, and serve as an influencer and subject matter expert. Expect occasional contributions to regional project teams where your expertise makes the difference.
Credentials that set you apart
- Demonstrated small-group leadership and mentoring
- Strong written communication for process documentation and concise, professional emails or memos
- Professional verbal communication with co-workers and BAC customers
- Must pass GMAW 6G weld test; oxy-fuel welding knowledge preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings
- Proficiency with MIG welding and plasma cutting processes and equipment
- Math fluency, including fraction-to-decimal conversions
- Comfort with measuring devices: weld gage, inclinometer, and tape measure
- Ability to navigate BAC submittals, fabrication sheets, and assembly lists (BoM’s) and act on job schedules
- Identify appropriate welding wires and gases; apply safe practices for welding and cutting hazards
- At least one year in-department experience preferred
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools and root cause methods for quality issues
- Thorough knowledge of machine-operation hazards and strong safety track record
- High familiarity with BAC models and parts
- Excel skills for data updates and generating metrics with pre-formatted spreadsheets
- Adaptable across multiple department workstations; comfortable with change
- Effective on cross-functional teams and capable of independent work
- Understands and adheres to LEAN principles
WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
