Industrial Utility Operations Associate (Steelmaking)

Join a team contributing to one of the world’s largest steel producers. In this entry-level Utility role, you’ll support production and service units across the mill, operate equipment, and keep essential processes moving in a heavy industrial environment.

What your shift could look like

You report for a rotating 8-hour shift, suit up with required PPE, and review safety priorities. On the floor, you’ll move between areas as needed—cutting or clearing with torches and hand tools, assisting with inspections, and handling materials. You may work near molten metal and around hot, heavy, or sharp materials, as well as hazardous chemicals. Conditions vary by location and can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy. Throughout the shift you coordinate with maintenance and production teams to keep equipment and processes running safely and efficiently.

Your impact

• Support producing units using basic hand tools, pneumatic equipment, gauges, oxygen lances, power actuated tools, and torches.
• Handle, transport, and process product and materials.
• Work safely with and around materials that may be hot, heavy, or sharp, and hazardous chemicals.
• Perform manual labor, including lifting more than 25 lbs.
• Assist in inspecting and performing maintenance on equipment.

Working conditions

• Various areas of the mill with changing environments: hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
• Work may be performed near molten metal.

After brief on-the-job training, you’ll advance into a Utility Technician position operating material-handling equipment such as overhead and mobile cranes of various sizes and types, tractors, trucks, dozers, loaders, boom trucks, and feeders.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures; required PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, boots with metatarsal protection, and respirator equipment when necessary.
• Punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction.
• Ability to perform manual labor and lift more than 25 lbs.
• Must pass a pre-employment digital assessment.
