Overview

Job Summary

The Information Systems Cloud Architect designs and guides secure, reliable, supportable, and cost-effective cloud and hybrid infrastructure solutions across HMA. The position establishes architecture and governance standards, evaluates workloads, develops migration and modernization strategies, and provides technical direction to infrastructure, security, data, application, and business teams. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role requiring strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to influence decisions across the organization.

Responsibilities

Work Performed and Job Requirements

• Cloud Architecture, Governance, and Operations

• Design and evaluate Azure, AWS, hybrid, and on-premises solutions based on business requirements, security, cost, performance, resiliency, and supportability.

• Establish and maintain cloud architecture standards, landing zones, governance frameworks, identity and access controls, network patterns, monitoring practices, tagging standards, and cost-management processes.

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code and policy-as-code solutions using tools such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager, Azure Policy, AWS Control Tower, and AWS Config.

• Automate cloud provisioning, configuration, scaling, monitoring, and optimization activities.

• Ensure cloud solutions address applicable security, privacy, regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements.

• Provide architecture guidance and recommendations throughout the solution lifecycle.

• Data, AI, and Emerging Technology

• Design cloud data-platform patterns that support data storage, integration, analytics, reporting, and governance.

• Partner with data engineering, analytics, application, security, and business teams to evaluate and implement data-platform solutions.

• Provide architecture guidance for AI and machine-learning solutions, as appropriate, including API Management and AI gateway patterns, Microsoft Foundry, and related data-processing architectures.

• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies that align with HMA's business objectives, architecture standards, security requirements, privacy obligations, and operational capabilities.

• Migration, Resiliency, and Delivery

• Assess new and existing workloads, dependencies, risks, and constraints and develop secure target architectures and migration or modernization roadmaps.

• Define requirements for availability, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, observability, recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, testing, validation, cutover, rollback, and ongoing support.

• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security, and support teams on SDLC, CI/CD, DevOps, secure deployment, Infrastructure-as-Code, documentation, and operational handoff practices.

• Create and maintain architecture documentation, reference patterns, standards, and technical guardrails.

• Provide architecture escalation and third-level technical support when required.

• Strategic and Organizational Support

• Translate business, technical, security, privacy, compliance, and financial requirements into practical architecture decisions and implementation plans.

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

• Develop strategic and tactical technology roadmaps in partnership with business partners and IT leadership.

• Participate in mergers and acquisitions activities, including technology discovery, workload assessment, security and identity review, integration planning, and migration recommendations.

• Mentor and support team members, share knowledge, and promote consistent, repeatable architecture practices.

• Support planned maintenance, change windows, or critical incidents as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer information systems, computer science, or related discipline is required.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years of experience designing and implementing cloud or hybrid infrastructure solutions is required, including substantial experience architecting production solutions in Microsoft Azure and practical experience with AWS. Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, cloud governance, identity and access management, security, networking, monitoring, resiliency, and cost management is required. Experience with regulated workloads, cloud data platforms, AI or machine-learning architecture, enterprise architecture, or mergers and acquisitions is preferred.

Microsoft Azure certification is required. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification is preferred. AWS certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of Azure, AWS, and hybrid or multi-cloud architecture patterns, best practices, and Well-Architected Framework principles.
• Advanced knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code and policy-as-code practices, including Terraform and applicable Azure and AWS governance tools.
• Knowledge of cloud identity and access management, networking, security, monitoring, observability, business continuity, disaster recovery, and operational support.
• Knowledge of cloud data architecture, including data modeling, data pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, data governance, reporting, and analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with AI and machine-learning technologies, responsible AI practices, AI gateway and API Management patterns, Microsoft Foundry, and AI data-processing pipelines.
• Familiarity with SDLC methodologies, Agile and DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, secure software delivery, and operational handoff practices.
• Strong analytical, logical-reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including the ability to assess alternatives and explain technical tradeoffs.
• Ability to evaluate system functionality, dependencies, risks, costs, and operational impacts.
• Strong project and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent documentation, presentation, oral, and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Ability to adapt to recurring responsibilities and changing short-term demands.
