Information Technology Subject Matter Expert – Enterprise Storage & Backup

AGE Solutions is seeking an experienced Information Technology Subject Matter Expert (IT SME) – Enterprise Storage & Backup to support our DoD customer. This position provides senior-level technical expertise, leadership, and advisory support for enterprise storage, backup, recovery, and data protection infrastructure supporting mission-critical DoD environments.

The IT SME will provide hands-on technical leadership across enterprise SAN, NAS, object storage, backup, recovery, and cloud storage environments. The successful candidate will have extensive experience designing, implementing, integrating, troubleshooting, securing, and sustaining enterprise storage and data protection solutions.

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide senior-level technical leadership and advisory support for enterprise storage, backup, recovery, and data protection infrastructure.
• Design, architect, deploy, configure, integrate, and sustain enterprise storage arrays, SAN/NAS environments, storage fabrics, and backup solutions.
• Administer and troubleshoot enterprise storage technologies, including Fibre Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE, HBA/CNA technologies, storage controllers, LUNs, RAID, NAS, and hierarchical storage systems.
• Support enterprise storage and data protection platforms, including NetApp, Pure Storage, Cohesity DataProtect, NetBackup, and Brocade Fibre Channel switching.
• Design and maintain disaster recovery, backup, replication, restoration, and business continuity solutions for mission-critical systems.
• Support cloud-based storage and backup solutions across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and OCI environments.
• Troubleshoot complex storage performance, connectivity, replication, and backup failures; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Implement storage security controls, including encryption, data immutability, ransomware mitigation, access controls, and secure data protection practices.
• Apply and support DISA STIGs, IAVAs, and DoD cybersecurity requirements applicable to enterprise storage and backup infrastructure.
• Support Windows and RHEL systems with storage presentation, volume management, multipathing (MPIO), and backup agent configuration.
• Support backup and restoration requirements for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and other enterprise database environments.
• Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, and related technologies for storage provisioning, capacity management, backup scheduling, monitoring, and routine administration.
• Integrate storage and data protection capabilities into automated provisioning and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) workflows where applicable.
• Lead storage and data protection initiatives through planning, design, implementation, data migration, transition, and sustainment phases.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including architecture documentation, project plans, status reports, disaster recovery runbooks, procedures, job guides, and system documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and administrators while coordinating activities across Government, contractor, and vendor teams.
• Communicate complex technical issues, risks, recommendations, and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Security Clearance:
  • Must have and maintain a current DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Experience:
  • Five (5) years of hands-on experience managing enterprise SAN environments, including Fibre Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE, HBA/CNA, storage controllers, LUNs, RAID, NAS/file sharing, hierarchical storage, and enterprise backup/restore technologies.
  • Five (5) years of hands-on experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) IT systems.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an advisory or managerial position supporting DoD or Federal enterprise infrastructure, including evaluating and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup technologies.
  • Three (3) years of experience designing, architecting, deploying, and managing enterprise storage arrays, storage topologies, and disaster recovery/backup solutions.
• Certifications:
  • Must possess and maintain (1) current DoD 8140/8570-compliant IAT Level II Acceptable certifications include:
    • CompTIA Security+ CE, CompTIA CySA+, GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), ISC2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP).
  • Must possess and maintain (1) current Computing Environment Certification from the following:
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Dell Certified Associate – Information Storage and Management, NetApp Certified Data Administrator (ONTAP), NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator, NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect, NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer – SAN Specialist (ONTAP), NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Implementation Engineer, Cohesity Certified Protection Associate – DataProtect, Cohesity Certified Protection Professional – NetBackup
• Skills and Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise storage and backup technologies such as NetApp, Pure Storage, Cohesity, NetBackup, and Brocade.
  • Strong knowledge of storage networking technologies and protocols, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE, NFS, SMB/CIFS, and dedicated backup/replication networks.
  • Experience administering enterprise storage and backup solutions in Windows and RHEL/Linux environments.
  • Experience supporting data protection, backup, and restoration for Oracle, SQL Server, and other enterprise database platforms.
  • Experience with storage security, ransomware protection, immutable backups, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and DISA STIG/IAVA compliance.
  • Experience using scripting and automation technologies such as PowerShell, Python, and Bash.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and enterprise infrastructure initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Extensive experience supporting enterprise storage and backup infrastructure within DLA or other DoD environments.
  • Experience with AWS S3/Glacier, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage/Azure Backup, and OCI storage services.
  • Experience designing and supporting dedicated storage, backup, and replication networks.
  • Experience leading enterprise storage migrations and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Knowledge of data protection architecture, ransomware recovery, immutable storage, encryption, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience supporting security assessments, vulnerability remediation, STIG compliance, and Government audits.
  • Experience integrating storage and backup capabilities with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automated provisioning, and DevSecOps workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex technical problems, determine root cause, recommend solutions, and communicate technical risk to management.

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

• Work is primarily performed in a professional office, data center, and secure Government facility environment.
• The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking throughout the workday.
• Must be able to operate standard computer, network, storage, and data center equipment.
• May occasionally be required to work in data center environments with elevated noise levels, controlled temperatures, raised floors, and confined equipment areas.
• Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and work around or behind equipment racks when supporting installation, troubleshooting, or maintenance activities.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds independently and heavier equipment with appropriate assistance.
• Requires sufficient manual dexterity to connect cables, install or remove hardware components, and perform other equipment-related tasks.
• May require occasional after-hours, weekend, or on-call support to address system outages, maintenance activities, upgrades, migrations, or other mission-critical requirements.
• Must be able to work effectively in secure environments and comply with applicable Government facility, information security, and safety requirements.
• Occasional travel may be required to support customer facilities, system installations, migrations, or other program requirements.

The projected salary range for this position is $130,000+ annually. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including years of relevant experience, active security clearance level, certifications, technical skillset, contract requirements, and overall qualifications.
