Overview
Homebuilding is one of the biggest industries in the world, and it's broken. It still builds the way it did a century ago, and it shows: homes take too long, schedules and budgets are guesses, quality is inconsistent, and there aren't nearly enough of them. At Cover, we're fixing that. We design, engineer, permit, manufacture, and build fully custom homes and ADUs from our factory in Gardena, Los Angeles, using our all-steel panelized building system that fits together like life-size Lego, configured to every client's site and taste. They're built the way cars are built: in a factory, with a repeatable process, to tight tolerances. Right now many of those homes are for families who lost theirs in the 2025 LA fires.
Every home we build is set on site by our own crews. We need someone to run installation, including building out processes and scaling teams.
Role
Run installs. You drive schedule, quality, and efficiency improvements of our panel installation in the field. The job is done when the home passes our high standards and no punch list items are remaining. Plan on 80 percent of your time at job sites around Southern California and the rest at the factory in Gardena.
Develop and implement install SOPs. Sequencing, schedule, resource planning, tool management, equipment specs, inspection templates, deviation and exception management, crew standards. You develop, implement, and drive on-site operations across all sites.
Build the crew and keep install ahead of the factory. Hire, train, schedule, and manage the install technicians, and grow the team as the pipeline grows so the factory never holds a home because install is not ready. Set the standards for quality, safety, attendance, and efficiency, and hold people to them. Build a path from technician to foreman. You also procure what install needs: equipment, subcontracted work.
Report what the field finds. Your crew is at the end of the line, catching what the factory misses, and you're responsible for bringing that feedback to the factory.
You report to Vishal Mane, our Head of Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
Experience
Required:
You have built a field process that a crew actually used. A playbook, a checklist, a training ladder.
You have effectively run crews yourself: hired them, trained them, scheduled them, and let people go when you had to.
You have built to exacting standards using factory-built components: panelized walls, modular units, precast, facade systems. Stick-built experience alone is not enough.
You are proficient with drawings and can check as built against the drawings on site and make the call.
At least seven years in construction field operations and three years running crews.
Fluent English.
A valid California driver's license, a clean driving record, and your own insured vehicle for site travel. Cover will obtain and review a California Motor Vehicle Record upon hire and annually thereafter, in accordance with applicable law.
Preferred:
Military experience preferred. Special operations and combat arms leaders stand out most. Combat engineering and logistics fit too. What transfers is leading a small team and taking full ownership of the plan, the people, and the outcome.
Capacity planning. You can work out how many crews a given factory output needs and show the math.
Feeding problems back to the factory. You have taken what you saw in the field and gotten it fixed upstream.
OSHA 30, plus rigging and signal and fall protection competent person, current or within 60 days of starting.
Spanish is a plus.
Factory-built construction, precast, facade, or steel erection.
