Job Summary
The IA - PARAPROFESSIONAL provides instructional, clerical, and supervisory support in the
classroom setting under the direction of certified teachers and building administrators. This role assists in
classroom operations, student engagement, materials preparation, and non-instructional supervision to
promote a well-managed, inclusive learning environment. The paraprofessional ensures students have
equitable access to instructional content, supports school-wide events and activities, and upholds district
standards for safety, confidentiality, and collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Ohio Paraprofessional License or eligibility for certification through the Ohio Department of
Education.
- If funded by Title 1 must meet requirements under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA):
o Associate's degree or higher, or
o Minimum of 48 semester hours of college coursework, or
o Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment.
- Successful completion of applicable training (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention as required).
- Prior experience working with students or in school settings preferred.
- Must have excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, Internet, and PowerPoint.
- Experience operating office and media equipment.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional & Classroom Support
- Assist students with classroom activities, reinforcement tasks, and technology use under teacher
direction.
- Monitor classroom and student engagement during instructional periods or teacher absences.
- Prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials including packets, booklets, tests, and
visual aids.
- Supervise students during transitions, arrival/dismissal, recess, lunch, assemblies, and special
events.
- Support learning tasks such as typing quizzes, inserting math/science notation, formatting
documents, and assembling projects.
- Coordinate and monitor make-up tests, labs, or study periods as assigned.
- Provide basic support during standardized testing and exam preparation.
Clerical & Administrative Support
- Operate and maintain copiers, printers, laminators, and other classroom machines.
- Complete tasks including faxing, cutting, coloring, hole punching, folding, and stapling
instructional materials.
- Support school-wide functions such as decorating, program production, graduation activities,
mailings, and special events.
- Perform data entry, typing, and document distribution (e.g., reports, letters, study guides).
- Assist with record keeping, delivery of materials, and setting up instructional carts or stations.
- Submit maintenance and supply requests, keep copy rooms stocked, and assist with shipments.
- Answer all emails in a timely manner.
- Complete all Safe Schools training in a timely manner.
- Maintain district-required documentation such as mileage forms, absence reports, and incident
forms.
Student Supervision & Support
- Support behavioral expectations and address minor student conduct issues as directed.
- Collaborate with substitute teachers and school staff to ensure continuity in classroom instruction.
- Uphold confidentiality in all student-related matters.
- Supervise students during one-on-one or small group activities as needed.
- Assist with recess, bus duty, hallway monitoring, and other supervisory coverage.

- Participate in school meetings, in-service training, and assigned professional development.
- Maintain regular communication with teachers, administrators, and building staff.
- Check and respond to email, voicemail, and other internal communications.
- Provide world-class customer services.

- Assist in preparing and submitting district forms, reports, and student-related documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of office equipment and basic educational technology (e.g., copier,
laminator, computer, fax, projector, scanner).
- Basic understanding of instructional strategies and classroom management strategies.
- Awareness of school policies and expectations for student safety and conduct.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other school software platforms.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills in fast-paced settings.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators.
Abilities:
- Ability to follow teacher direction and adapt support to meet varied student needs.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive classroom climate.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing classroom needs.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Working Conditions
- School-based environment requiring interaction among students, teachers, and administrators.
- Physical activity may include standing, bending, twisting, repetitive motion, lifting (up to 20 lbs),
and assisting students during activities.
