Instructional Designer

Hybrid in Washington, DC
Position could extend or convert to full-time

PURPOSE: Focuses on the systematic process of developing learning products through the analysis of business needs, adult learning theory, and collaboration with subject matter experts. This role ensures the ongoing evaluation of programs to maintain accuracy and relevance. Deliverables include online courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials, and learning simulations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • 25% Content Development: Designs, develops, and delivers high-quality Instructor-led, eLearning, and multimedia materials, including design documents, outlines, presentation slides, lab exercises, instructor guides, and assessments.

  • 25% Visual Design: Creates visually appealing products that adhere to branding guidelines utilizing graphic, authoring, and video production tools.

  • 20% Needs Analysis: Partners cross-functionally to scope requirements and objectives. Conducts front-end analysis, including needs assessments, task analysis, and instructional analysis.

  • 15% Instructional Theory: Applies instructional design principles, methodologies, and adult learning theories to optimize the learner experience.

  • 15% Project Ownership: Manages the end-to-end design and development process for assigned projects through consistent status updates, quality reviews, and lessons-learned sessions.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Instructional Design, Technology, Education, or a related field. (4 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for a degree).

  • Experience: 5+ years as an instructional designer, trainer, or in a similar role.

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Instructional Design; experience developing material using multiple platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline, and Adobe Premiere.

  • Certification: E-Learning Instructional Design Certification required upon hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

  • Advanced: Knowledge of web-based, multimedia, and mobile technologies to enhance learning and assessment.

  • Advanced: Ability to analyze and solve complex problems while prioritizing work to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Advanced: Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficient: Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and graphic design tools.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and variable workloads.

  • Ability to meet established deadlines and manage multiple internal and external stakeholder demands with a focus on service excellence.

  • Must immediately disclose any event that results in ineligibility to perform work on federal programs.
