INSTRUCTOR-CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

MOUNTWEST COMMUNITY & TECHNICAL COLLEGE

CABELL CO.

Full-time, 12 month, benefits-eligible, grant-funded, exempt, faculty term position. The position is expected to last the duration of the grant.

Salary: $50,000/year, non-negotiable.

Summary: Serve as the primary instructor of Construction Management and Apprenticeship Readiness programs at Mountwest. This individual is a Construction Industry expert who will provide instruction, coordinate on-the-job training between industry and students, recruit students, perform course and program assessments, maintain records, and manage day to day operations of the programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop written syllabi/course outlines and course materials.
  • Must have flexible schedule and ability to teach evening courses.
  • Work with industry to create program and course curriculum and assessment for the construction management program.
  • Teach construction management and related program courses.
  • Ensure the safety of students in potentially hazardous training environments.
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Facilitate optimal learning through integration of technology and utilization of appropriate delivery methods.
  • Assess student learning based on course and program outcomes.
  • Create an inclusive, effective learning environment that addresses barriers and provides reasonable accommodations.
  • Provide regular curriculum and course improvement.
  • Participate in subject or program leadership teams and college-wide committees.
  • Maintain reports and accurate records related to the program; present reports as requested.
  • Serve as a partner in the community related to the construction management program and industry.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous professional development.
  • Participate in college outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department on the development of marketing materials and webpage updates for the program.
  • Advocate for and represent the construction management program at regional, state, and national events on behalf of the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Licensure/Certification Required: Requires possession of a current/valid driver's license. CPR/First Aid certifications. Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Organizational, planning, and time management skills; verbal and written communication skills; analytical skills and abilities; computer technology skills and abilities; problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to plan and set goals and follow through to completion; ability to work without direct supervision; and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, faculty, students, industry, and people of differing social, or educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a program and lead/train.
  • Proven skill in interacting with the public.
  • Ability to work independently.

Physical/Work Demands:

  • The position regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and hearing.
  • The position frequently requires using hands and arms to handle tools, equipment, materials, and controls and to reach.
  • The position requires the ability to access assigned instructional, laboratory, and work areas using stairs and/or ladders and may require working at elevated heights.
  • The position may occasionally require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • The position may require occasional lifting and/or moving of materials, equipment, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The position requires sufficient visual ability to safely perform instructional and construction-related duties, which may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying temperatures, weather, dust, noise, and other environmental conditions associated with construction activities.
  • The noise level may vary from moderate to high depending on the instructional or work environment.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

3-5 years of experience in the construction field is preferred. MVR CHECK is required -The employee in this position is a potential operator of vehicles owned by Mountwest and may be responsible for driving any other motor vehicles on behalf of the College. Strong organizational, leadership and management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to both manage and lead. Experience leading a team and teaching experience preferred. Travel may be required for this position.
