Position Overview:

The Intern DUI Counselor supports the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Program under the direct supervision of a certified counselor. This learning-focused role observes client intake, assessment, monitoring, group and education sessions, referrals, and quality assurance activities while developing skills in SUD counseling and DUI program operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Observe client intakes, enrollments, assessments, face-to-face monitoring, group counseling, education sessions, and referrals under direct supervision.
• Assist counseling and administrative staff in supporting clients as they complete DUI program requirements.
• Learn applicable Title 9 and Title 22 DUI program requirements, documentation standards, and evidence-based program curriculum.
• Assist with quality assurance chart reviews, client attendance tracking, pre-enrollment forms, and maintaining client records.
• Provide front-office support, including greeting clients and answering telephone calls as assigned.
• Attend required staff meetings, weekly progress reviews, and assigned trainings.
• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and Kings View policies.
• Continue educational coursework toward SUD counselor registration/certification and perform other assigned program support duties.

What You’ll Bring:

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrollment in an accredited educational program pursuing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counselor training; actively working toward the minimum 23 units specified in the job description.
• Registered Intern status through a California SUD services certifying agency, as specified in the job description.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate clearly and professionally with clients and staff.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with DUI program operations, effective interviewing techniques, and applicable Title 9 regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Employment is subject to applicable program, credentialing, background screening, and organizational requirements.

Work Environment:

Primarily an office and DUI program setting with regular interaction with clients and staff. Duties include use of standard office equipment and routine sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
