Intern - Information Technology

Position Summary

The Information Technology (IT) Summer Intern will assist the IT Department with day-to-day operations, technology projects, and customer support activities while gaining hands-on experience in a utility environment. This internship provides exposure to information technology, cybersecurity, network infrastructure, data analytics, and Microsoft 365 technologies. The intern will work closely with IT staff members on meaningful projects that support organizational goals while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The intern may assist with:

IT Operations & Support

• Configure and deploy laptops, mobile devices, and related technology equipment.
• Assist with software installation, updates, and workstation setup.
• Provide first-level technical support and assist with service desk ticket resolution.
• Perform hardware inventory and asset management activities.
• Update and maintain technology documentation, procedures, and knowledge base articles.
• Assist with equipment lifecycle tracking and replacement planning.

Cybersecurity

• Support cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives.
• Assist with security reporting, auditing, and documentation.
• Review software inventories and identify unsupported or end-of-life applications.
• Help maintain records related to security controls and compliance activities.
• Participate in cybersecurity projects and process improvement efforts.

Microsoft 365 & Business Applications

• Assist with Microsoft 365 administration and reporting.
• Support Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and other collaboration tools.
• Help develop automated workflows using Power Automate and related technologies.
• Assist with data collection, reporting, and dashboard development.

Data Analytics & Reporting

• Create and maintain reports utilizing Power BI and other reporting tools.
• Analyze technology performance metrics and service desk data.
• Develop dashboards that support operational and management decision-making.
• Assist with data validation and reporting improvements.

Infrastructure & Project Support

• Assist with network and infrastructure documentation.
• Participate in technology deployments and upgrades.
• Attend departmental meetings and project discussions.
• Support special projects assigned by the Information Technology team.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 products.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts.
• Interest in cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud technologies, or IT support.
• Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, scripting, or programming is beneficial but not required.
