Information Technology (IT) Support Internship Opportunity!
Competitive Innovations LLC (CI) offers hybrid internship opportunities designed to give early career students hands-on experience with modern Microsoft technologies, cybersecurity, web development, and digital transformation. Our interns work alongside experienced teams on real projects that support public and private sector clients, gaining practical skills while contributing to meaningful, mission driven work. Internship Eligibility and Requirements
Proof of residency in a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)–designated Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) is required prior to starting and must be maintained throughout employment. (Visit HUBZone Map to determine whether you live in an SBA-designated HUBZone)
2nd or 3rd year college student majoring in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Business Information Systems or other information technology / business systems related field
Hours: 10 hours per week / 40 hours per month minimum
During this internship, students will have opportunities to build new technical skills and may pursue related professional certifications. CI will sponsor and maintain any Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft®professional, or cloud certifications earned, through our participation in the Microsoft / Amazon or other Partner programs.
The terms of this internship with CI are outlined in the job description below and in our standard Employment and Confidentiality Agreement, which must be signed by both the student and the company as a condition of employment.
Job Summary Helpdesk / IT Support Intern
CI is seeking a student intern to support helpdesk and IT support operations for internal users and client-facing environments. In this role, the intern will work alongside experienced team members to:
Provide first-line technical support for common hardware, software, and account access issues through ticketing, email, chat, or virtual support channels
Troubleshoot and resolve routine workstation, application, printer, and connectivity problems, escalating more complex issues when appropriate
Assist with user account setup, password resets, permissions support, and onboarding or offboarding tasks following documented procedures
Document incidents, resolutions, and support processes clearly and accurately in knowledge bases or ticketing systems
Support device setup, software installation, system updates, and basic configuration for laptops, desktops, and mobile devices
Contribute to a positive support experience by communicating clearly with users, following up on requests, and learning from team documentation and guidance
This is a learning-focused role. The ideal candidate is dependable, customer-service oriented, and eager to build practical troubleshooting and technical support skills while learning from documented processes and practiced team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Business Information Systems or related degree program
Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, common business applications, and general troubleshooting concepts
Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Windows environments, AWS and/or other common workplace productivity technologies
Ability to follow documented procedures, record support activity clearly, and manage routine tasks with detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to assist users professionally and patiently
Reliable, organized, and willing to learn new tools, systems, and support processes
