HarmonyTech is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer to provide hands-on Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support for enterprise applications and their supporting Windows server environments.
The Systems Engineer will support day-to-day system operations, application and server monitoring, troubleshooting, incident and problem resolution, vulnerability remediation, system administration, patching, releases, and operational automation.
This position requires hands-on power-user experience with enterprise monitoring, security, vulnerability management, privileged-access, logging, and IT service-management tools, including SolarWinds, CyberArk, ServiceNow, Splunk, Nucleus, and Qualys.
The successful candidate is not expected to serve as the enterprise administrator for each of these products. Rather, the engineer will use these platforms extensively to monitor, troubleshoot, secure, support, and maintain enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and systems engineering support for enterprise applications and supporting infrastructure.
- Monitor application health, server health, services, connections, resource utilization, logs, alerts, and system performance and proactively identify and resolve operational issues.
- Use SolarWinds as a power user for server and application monitoring, alert investigation, performance analysis, and operational troubleshooting.
- Use Splunk for log searches, event analysis, troubleshooting, monitoring, and investigation of application and infrastructure issues.
- Use ServiceNow to manage and document incidents, problems, changes, service requests, operational activities, and resolution actions.
- Use Qualys to review vulnerability scan results, analyze findings, support remediation, track vulnerabilities, and validate corrective actions.
- Use Nucleus to review, track, prioritize, and support remediation of vulnerability findings.
- Use CyberArk to support privileged and service-account credential management and password-management activities associated with supported systems.
- Perform hands-on Windows Server administration, including:
- Troubleshooting performance and availability issues
- Starting, stopping, and validating Windows and application services
- Monitoring CPU, memory, disk utilization, and system resources
- Managing application and service configurations
- Supporting service accounts and permissions
- Troubleshooting connectivity and authentication issues
- Installing and upgrading approved third-party software
- Supporting server and application patching
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration, monitoring, diagnostics, health checks, and other repeatable O&M activities.
- Support vulnerability and security remediation, including analysis, remediation recommendations, patch or configuration changes, testing, implementation, verification, and documentation.
- Support application and server patch testing, planned maintenance activities, software upgrades, releases, deployments, and post-deployment validation.
- Troubleshoot system degradations, outages, alerts, and production issues, identify root causes, and implement or coordinate corrective actions.
- Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support and coordinate resolution activities with application developers, database administrators, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity personnel, and other technical stakeholders.
- Support configuration and release-management activities across Development, Test, Staging, and Production environments.
- Support cybersecurity compliance and continuous monitoring, including vulnerabilities, patch compliance, security events, unauthorized access attempts, and configuration issues.
- Maintain accurate runbooks, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting documentation, knowledge articles, scripts, configuration information, and other operational documentation.
- Participate in Agile/Kanban and DevSecOps processes and collaborate across application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and support teams.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, increased reliability, and reduction of recurring operational issues.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration, systems engineering, application infrastructure support, or enterprise production O&M.
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Windows-based enterprise applications.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
- Experience troubleshooting Windows services, processes, application dependencies, connectivity, permissions, certificates, service accounts, disk/resource utilization, and performance issues.
- Experience with enterprise application and infrastructure monitoring, alert investigation, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience supporting vulnerability remediation, security findings, application/server patching, and configuration remediation.
- Working knowledge of identity, authentication, SSO, Active Directory, service accounts, and privileged-access concepts.
- Experience supporting systems across Development, Test, Staging, and Production environments.
- Experience working in Agile, Kanban, DevOps, or DevSecOps environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Enterprise Tool Experience
Candidates should have hands-on experience as an operator or power user of enterprise IT operations and cybersecurity tools. Experience with the following technologies is strongly preferred:
- SolarWinds – Monitoring, alerts, dashboards, performance and availability analysis
- Splunk – Log analysis, searches, dashboards, event investigation and troubleshooting
- ServiceNow – Incident, problem, change and operational workflow management
- Qualys – Vulnerability assessment, findings analysis, remediation tracking and validation
- Nucleus – Vulnerability management and remediation tracking
- CyberArk – Privileged and service-account credential-management workflows
Candidates are not expected to be enterprise platform administrators for all six products. The position requires strong power-user proficiency sufficient to leverage these tools as part of day-to-day systems O&M.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise applications in a Federal Government or highly regulated environment.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and troubleshooting application/database connectivity.
- Experience supporting IIS and .NET-based applications.
- Experience with Active Directory, certificates, security groups, service accounts, and application authentication.
- Experience with ITIL-aligned incident, problem, change, and configuration management.
- Experience supporting application/infrastructure release and configuration management.
- Experience supporting FISMA- and NIST-aligned cybersecurity compliance and continuous monitoring.
- Experience with infrastructure automation and DevSecOps practices.
- Relevant Microsoft, systems engineering, ITIL, Security+, or comparable technical certification.
- Existing Federal Public Trust preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant additional professional experience and technical certifications may be considered in lieu of degree requirements where appropriate.
