Contract: 18 months
Hours/Schedule: Dayshift. Core hours are 7:00am 3:30pm. There may be some overtime required, based on the project timeline and working around production. I would summarize it as an occasional Saturday/Sunday and possibly 2-4 hours over M-F. Both scenarios will be infrequent. Possible that the contractor would have to work on upcoming Holidays.
Travel: There could be - to go out and see the equipment. It would be infrequent.
Summary
Detroit Diesel Corporation is a 3 million sq. ft. industrial facility allowing a large variety of opportunities for machining, assembly, test, office, and infrastructure projects. This position provides strategic and technical leadership for plant construction projects. The project s scope will include building preparation and installation of new equipment. The primary responsibilities include drawing interpretation and managing contractors to meet technical requirements, schedule, and budget. This position will manage projects ranging from $1M - $20M. The span of the overall project is expected to be 24 months. Work is of a technical nature where independent judgment is used, and decisions are made within the limits of general practice policies. The candidate must be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Purpose of Team: Manager s team is primarily responsible for all site and facility improvement projects, which includes preparing spaces for new equipment. We also have responsibility for maintaining the building and facilities.
Work Environment: Manager s team has a mix of office and plant/roof. It s probably 70% office and the balance out on jobs. I expect the project manager to be just the opposite; 30% office and 70% on the job site.
Reason for Opening: This position is related to dept relocations and infrastructure improvements for a new block machining line.
Typical Day:- Renovating a space to relocate the vehicle test center
- Interface between engineering team and contractor that is prepping the space for the block line
- This is a project related job supporting the new block machining line.
- Manager needs someone that can take the prints from the engineers.
- Manage the contractors that are doing the work to make sure they produce quality work, stay on schedule, etc.
- For most of their day this individual will be out on the floor in the construction areas
- Working with the Engineering group on timeline concerns
- This individual s day is mostly going to be ruled by coordinating the work that must be done.

1 Experience managing an industrial project
2 Strong leadership and communication skills
3 Ability to interpret building drawings (manager also mentioned that architectural or engineering could also be helpful)
Education and Skills Requirements- Bachelor s degree from an accredited University in construction management
- Experience managing industrial projects
- Comfortable leading daily meetings
- Proven experience holding people accountable
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing industrial projects
- This could look like Installing a new machining line or installing an assembly line. Preparing a space for a new block line. Overseeing a plant build.
- Experience working within a UAW environment. Not a requirement but would be nice to have
- Client office experience.
- Ability to demonstrate in an interview how they ve supported an industrial project or two. This is important to the manager. More so than how many years of experience they have. He s more focused on the scale of the projects they ve supported in the past.
