Journeyman Carpenter

This role focuses on the construction and installation of custom signage and supporting structures within Terminal B at IAH airport. You will interpret blueprints, perform a wide range of carpentry and commercial electrical tasks, and use a variety of hand and power tools to install large, illuminated signs and robust structural elements in a busy, controlled construction environment.

• Read and interpret plans and blueprints to understand project specifications and installation requirements.
• Construct, assemble, and install custom signage structures using a variety of hand and power tools.
• Perform commercial electrical tasks, including electrical wiring for illuminated signage and related systems.
• Hang and install unistrut and other structural supports for large signage and architectural elements.
• Carry out core drilling, concrete drilling, and bolting to securely anchor signage and structural components.
• Operate tools such as tape measures, hammer drills, chop saws, ratchets, core drills, band saws, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
• Install metal studs, drywall, and other construction materials as needed for sign mounting and structural integration.
• Execute finish carpentry tasks to ensure completed installations meet aesthetic and quality standards.
• Work at height and on scaffolding when required, following all safety protocols.
• Collaborate with crew members, supervisors, and project management to coordinate installation activities and meet project deadlines.
• Adapt to changing schedules or tasks based on material availability and project needs.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly used and stored.
• Follow all site safety rules, including the use of required personal protective equipment, and adhere to airport and construction site regulations.

• At least 5+ years of experience in installation work or 5+ years in construction.
• Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
• Hands-on experience with commercial electrical work, including electrical wiring for installations.
• Strong carpentry skills, including rough and finish carpentry.
• Demonstrated experience hanging unistrut and installing structural supports.
• Proficiency using hand and power tools such as tape measure, hammer drill, chop saw, ratchet, core drill, band saw, and bolting tools.
• Experience with concrete drilling and core drilling in a construction environment.
• Ability to install metal studs and drywall as part of signage or structural work.
• Capability to work safely on scaffolding and at height.
• Skilled craftsman across multiple areas of construction with strong attention to detail.
• Reliable access to personal tools required for the job (hand and power tools).

• Experience installing large, illuminated signs or similar structural installations, such as neighborhood or bank signs.
• Background in curtainwall installation is highly beneficial.
• Aircraft maintenance technician experience is considered translatable and valuable.
• Comfort working on complex, large-scale projects similar in complexity to theme park ride installations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to diverse installation tasks.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew with multiple supervisors and a project manager.
• Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and site leadership.

This position is based in the new Terminal B at IAH airport within a controlled construction environment. You will work alongside up to 10 crew members, several supervisors, and a project manager, using a wide range of construction and electrical tools and equipment. The standard schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed, and exact days or times may flex based on material delays. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, safety glasses, hard hat, and gloves, with strict adherence to site safety protocols and airport regulations.

This is a Contract position based out of Humble, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
