Staff Accountant

Location: East Roseville, CA
Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus of up to 10%

About the Opportunity

A well-established and expanding construction-related organization with operations across multiple western states is seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This role offers excellent professional development opportunities and a clear path toward advancement into senior-level accounting and leadership positions.

Working directly alongside the Controller/CFO, the successful candidate will become an integral member of a lean, collaborative accounting department. This environment provides broad exposure to accounting operations and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the business.

What You'll Do

  • Support the monthly close process by preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Assist in producing timely and accurate monthly financial reporting.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.
  • Complete detailed bank and cash account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and payroll personnel to ensure accurate payroll-related accounting entries and month-end accruals.
  • Help maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
  • Participate in the preparation of schedules and documentation for internal reviews and external audits.
  • Analyze financial data and recommend corrections or adjustments when necessary.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives within the accounting function.
  • Perform additional accounting and finance-related projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on experience in an accrual-based accounting environment.
  • Background working for a small to mid-sized organization, preferably within the $20M to $70M revenue range.
  • Strong understanding of financial statement relationships and adjusting journal entries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks or similar ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of managing priorities independently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum 1 year of accounting experience.
  • Ideally someone with two years of experience preparing and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Experience with month-end close activities and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, team-oriented approach.
