Junior Systems Engineer

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Junior Systems Engineer to join their growing IT infrastructure team. This is a fully remote opportunity for someone early in their systems engineering career who wants hands-on exposure to enterprise networks, servers, and cloud environments while working alongside experienced engineers who can mentor their growth.

Day to day, you will spend your time monitoring system health, resolving tickets, supporting deployments, and documenting infrastructure changes. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable asking questions while building toward independent ownership of projects. People who thrive in this role enjoy troubleshooting, are eager to learn new tools and platforms, and take pride in keeping systems reliable and secure.

Responsibilities

• Monitor server, network, and cloud infrastructure for performance and availability issues
• Respond to and resolve help desk escalations related to systems and infrastructure
• Assist with deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers
• Support administration of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
• Help maintain backup, disaster recovery, and patch management processes
• Assist senior engineers with cloud infrastructure tasks in AWS or Azure
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours system alerts
• Support basic network administration tasks including VPN and firewall configuration
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive administrative tasks

Requirements

• Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 1 to 2 years of experience in systems administration, help desk, or IT support
• Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux operating systems
• Basic understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Scripting familiarity with PowerShell, Bash, or Python is a plus
• Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to learn new technologies
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications are a plus
