Overview:

The Kitchen Cook works with recipes in our scratch kitchen created by our Chefs to prepare a range of fresh and nutritionally compliant school meals. Cooks work together as a team to achieve service throughout the shift. Adherence to health department standards regarding cleanliness and sanitation of their workstations during food preparation is required and expected. This is a fast paced job focused on ensuring our scholars have the best food possible every day to ensure they are ready to work hard in class.

Background on the Organization:

Circle City Schools is a small network of schools in Indianapolis, Indiana composed of ACE Prep (K-6) and Circle City Prep (K-8). Both campuses are committed to high expectations paired with high levels of support. We hold a deep belief that all scholars have immense potential and unique strengths. ACE Prep, serving grades K-6 in the Greater Broad Ripple area, was founded in 2016 and boasts a 90%+ IREAD pass rate in SY24 and SY25. While focused on academic rigor, ACE totes a small school environment where each child is seen and cared for. Circle City Prep, serving K-8 scholars on the Far Eastside of Indianapolis, was founded in 2017 and serves 90%+ low-income and 30%+ multilingual learners. For the last four years, Circle City Prep has been the highest performing public school in its community and focuses on a well rounded school experience.

Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Kitchen Cook is to:

  • Set-up and stock stations with all tools, products, and supplies necessary to prepare menu items with the team on the line
  • Follow prep list, recipes, and in-service instruction as provided by Chef and Kitchen Manager
  • Ensure dishes are prepared in a timely, efficient manner upholding standards related to presentation and quality
  • Comply with nutrition, sanitation, and industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices in line with ServSafe guidelines
  • Communicate any daily product and/or supply needs with the Chef and Kitchen Manager
  • Ensure accurate daily reporting of production/sales
  • Execute receiving procedures and food storage standards
  • Execute daily service standards for each meal period
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

To be considered as a Kitchen Cook, you must:

  • Previous experience working in a school and/or restaurant kitchen.
  • Ability to speak conversational Spanish (preferred).
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs without assistance.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet.
  • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law.
