    Position Type: Contract
    Contract Duration: Approximately 3 Months
    Start: As Soon As Possible
    Pay Rate: $18.63 – $23.00/hr
    Shift / Schedule:
    • 3rd Shift: 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM
    • Shift Length: 8.5 hours
    • Breaks: Two 30-minute lunches

    Job Overview
    The Lab Assistant – 3rd Shift supports laboratory operations by performing routine, detail-oriented tasks that ensure accurate specimen handling, processing, and workflow efficiency. This role assists laboratory professionals while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards in a production laboratory environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Sort and receive specimens within the department.
    • Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
    • Centrifuge specimens and prepare samples for testing.
    • Print and apply labels; record data such as temperature charts.
    • Handle specimen storage and retrieval.
    • Prepare reagents and/or media.
    • Build worklists, aliquot specimens, check samples for clots or fibrin, perform inoculation and slide preparation.
    • Perform assigned QA/QC duties.
    • Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
    • Decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous materials.
    • Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
    • Maintain departmental files and records.
    • Change gas cylinders as required.
    • Follow all PPE, safety, and regulatory requirements.
    • Use laboratory computer systems and standard PC applications.
    • Complete required training and competency assessments.

    • Ability to work independently during overnight shifts.

    Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
    • Medical assistant training (helpful).
    • Math and science coursework (preferred).

    Work Experience
    • No prior experience required.
