Job Title: Laboratory and Facilities Coordinator

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of research lab spaces occupied by the School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus, including equipment and facilities. This individual will provide guidance to faculty, staff, and students by interpreting school, university, state, and federal guidelines, policies, and regulations as they affect the school's spaces and to ensure compliance is maintained. This position will also act as a research lab liaison between the School of Medicine Dean's Office and the School of Medicine Departments/Divisions/Sections/Centers/Cores that are housed within research lab space to provide a focal point for information and to help facilitate various building issues. Collaboration with, but not limited to, Facilities Management, Institutional Planning, Environmental Health and Safety, Security Badging, Information Technology, and Asset Management will be critical to the duties of this position. This position will also assist with special projects related to lab utilization and efficiency of lab space.

Supervision Received:

This position reports to the Laboratory and Facilities Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management (60%)

  • Ensure laboratory space compliance with university, state, and regulatory requirements, serving as a resource to lab occupants on applicable standards and procedures.

  • Coordinate and support laboratory construction, renovation, and space improvement projects, including scope review, stakeholder engagement, participation in planning meetings, and project implementation through completion.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between laboratory occupants and campus partners, including Facilities Management and Environmental Health & Safety, regarding building standards, moves, equipment monitoring systems, hazardous materials management, and related operational needs.

  • Manage laboratory space transitions, including incoming and outgoing labs, equipment placement, work order coordination, and required signage updates.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, departments, and campus service units to support research space operations.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to laboratory space, equipment, facilities, and emergency situations.

Administrative Coordination (30%)

  • Support space utilization and research productivity initiatives through inventory management, data collection, analysis, reporting, and strategic space planning.

  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory, office, freezer, equipment, and biobank space assignments, including associated documentation and signage.

  • Manage and maintain operational resources and working documents related to laboratory space, shared building resources, equipment inventories, and storage capacity planning.

  • Coordinate laboratory furniture and equipment redistribution efforts, matching available resources with departmental needs and promoting efficient space utilization.

Sustainability (10%)

  • Lead efforts to repurpose, rehome, and responsibly dispose of laboratory equipment, furniture, and supplies to maximize resource utilization and reduce waste.

  • Partner with laboratories and campus sustainability stakeholders to implement process improvements, enhance communication, and support sustainability initiatives.

  • Identify and implement innovative solutions for managing, organizing, and storing laboratory resources more efficiently.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of four (4) days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in planning, business administration, physical or biological sciences, facilities management, construction management, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • Four (4) years of laboratory management experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building administration.

  • Experience reviewing and interpreting architectural drawings to support facility planning, renovation, construction, or space utilization projects.

  • Experience evaluating renovation project scopes and reviewing associated cost estimates to assess feasibility, budget impacts, and project requirements.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $76,237 to $102,158.
