Job Description

Pay Range: $14.00hr - $19.00hr

Job Overview:

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and facilitate production.

Job Requirements:

  • Sort and receive specimens in the department.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
  • Perform laboratory tasks including centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data on temperature charts, and managing specimen storage and retrieval.
  • Prepare reagents or media in the department.
  • Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control duties as assigned.
  • Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
  • Decontaminate work areas.
  • Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
  • Maintain files for department records.
  • Change gas cylinders.
  • Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safety regulations.
  • Utilize the laboratory computer system and operate personal computers.
  • Dispose of biohazardous material.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Medical assistant training is helpful, and math and science courses are preferred.

Work Experience:

None required.

  • Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
  • Ability to retain information once learned.
  • Ability to interact with coworkers, internal customers, and external customers with courtesy and respect.
