Laboratory Assistant

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing duties to support manufacturing which includes product sampling, testing, measuring, recording, and analyzing in cooperation with the rest of the ChemGenes laboratory team. Responsible for performing a wide variety of complex research/laboratory tasks and experiments under limited supervision. May make detailed observations, analyze data and interpret results.

Maintains laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies. Writes experimental reports, summaries and protocols. Performs troubleshooting and calibration of instruments. Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments.

Essential Job Functions

The major tasks and duties of the job include but are not limited to:

• Prepare mixtures of solvents & silica gel slurries.
• Prepare and perform Purification columns for Chromatography.
• Clean glassware's and bottles by following procedures.
• Produce accurate and reliable data and interpret results.
• Follow methodologies in carrying routine tasks.
• Comply with the laboratory's technical, administrative and health/safety policies and procedures.
• Adheres to all departmental protocols, rules, contamination controls, and safety procedures and understands the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
• Document all activities, record results, and insert/retrieve data.
• Participate in the laboratory's quality assurance plan, adhering to quality control and preventive maintenance policies and appropriately documenting these activities.
• Troubleshoot and identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results by initiating corrective action and using the Laboratory Information Systems to make the required management notification.
• Perform proficiency testing in the same manner as routine samples.
• Evaluate data & prepare technical reports.
• Perform general lab maintenance as necessary.
• Maintain work area and equipment.
• Provide assistance to Senior Production Chemists/Production Chemists.

Preparation, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology or related field, 2+ years related industry experience.
• Ability to use all automated laboratory equipment.
• Computer literacy and experience with Laboratory Information Systems.
• Accuracy and close attention to details.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with good mathematical skills.
• Ability to follow company SOPs and perform complex laboratory protocols successfully.
• Able to easily understand complex instructions.
• Able and willing to maintain strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory research and results.

• Understands and applies basic laboratory safety instructions, reagent handling precautions, and disposal of chemical waste according to local environmental regulations.

The work will be performed at the ChemGenes' laboratory which requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, push, pull, reach, carry, lift, grasp, squat or stoop; bend and twist the body while performing essential duties; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
