Contract Details

• Position Type: Contract
• Contract Duration: 3 months
• Pay Rate: $53.60 $57.60 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night shift 4x10 Hours, 9:30 PM 7:30 AM (start time is 2130, but may flex to 2000 as needed); rotating weekends and holidays; weekends may exceed every other to accommodate unit needs
• Travel Requirements: Local radius is 50 miles

Job Summary

This is a night-shift Clinical Lab Scientist travel/contract assignment at an acute care, MAGNET-designated hospital in Orange, CA. The clinician will work fully independent at night and must be able to work alone with confidence. The facility is a large teaching hospital (426 staffed beds, Trauma Level I) with high-volume Blood Bank operations, expecting 30 50 samples per day with high-volume type/screen and crossmatch.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform Blood Bank testing independently on the night shift, including type/screen and crossmatch at high volume (30 50 samples per day)
• Operate fully independently without supervision during night shift hours
• Utilize Blood Bank software (Wellsky, Immucor Instrumentation, or equivalent) for specimen processing and reporting
• Chart and document findings using Epic electronic health record system
• Accommodate rotating weekend and holiday scheduling as required by unit needs
• Flex start time between 9:30 PM and 8:00 PM as operationally needed

Required Skills

• Minimum 2 years of recent/current Blood Bank experience (hard stop must be within the last 2 years)
• Seasoned traveler in Blood Bank (hard stop first-timers not accepted)
• Experience with Blood Bank software any software acceptable, but experience required (hard stop)
• Epic electronic health record experience (hard stop)
• Experience in a large hospital with 300 staffed beds (hard stop)
• Trauma Level I experience (required)
• Ability to work fully independently on night shift without direct supervision
• Rotating weekend and holiday availability

Preferred Skills

• Wellsky and/or Immucor Instrumentation experience
• Teaching hospital experience
• Clinical Immunohematology Scientist (Clin Immunohem Sci) certification

Education Requirements

• ASCP-BB (American Society for Clinical Pathology Blood Bank) certification required
• Clinical Immunohematology Scientist certification preferred
• CA state credentials/licenses as applicable to Clinical Lab Scientist role

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of Blood Bank experience hard stop; must be recent/current (within the last 2 years)
• Experience as a Blood Bank traveler first-timers not accepted
• Trauma Level I facility experience required

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Teaching hospital experience

• Guaranteed hours: Facility is able to call off once per two-week pay period
