Position Summary: The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will be responsible for 50% biology teaching load including 6-8 contact hours of lecture and lab each semester and 4 contact hours during the Summer. The lab manager will also support research laboratories by maintaining facilities, ensuring safety compliance, assisting with instruction and laboratory coordination.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), EPA, and safety standards.
  • Prepare lab materials and monitor chemical storage.
  • Assist with lab instruction and student support.
  • Maintain safety documentation and conduct safety training.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supervise student workers and graduate assistants.
  • Coordinate lab scheduling and usage.
  • Support outreach activities (e.g., summer camps).
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of lab safety procedures and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) protocols.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master's degree in a science-related field (minimum requirement).
  • Relevant certifications preferred:
  • Laboratory Safety/Chemical Hygiene Certification.
  • OSHA Laboratory Safety Training (e.g., OSHA 10 or 30-hour).
  • Biosafety or Biohazard Safety Training.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Hazardous Waste Handling Certification (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) or equivalent).

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
