Overview:
Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Lab Technician to join its Dispersion Scale-Up Lab located at the Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA. The successful candidate will become a key member of the Process Technology team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design of experiments; conduct experiments independently; collect, summarize, and present resulting data.
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory; collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.
- Identify and suggest improvements in methods.
- Produce research experimental results, support information/data management, and assemble/configure small or pilot-scale equipment and control systems using a variety of techniques.
- Document findings and communicate results.
- Make suggestions on path forward and contribute to formulating work plans and managing daily workflow.
- Inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Accurately run and record test results for all coating formulations.
- Interpret and communicate test results using computer-based systems.
- Document experimental test results using computer programs such as Word and Excel.
- Safely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.
- Handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints.
Requirements:
- A 2-year degree from a college or technical school with at least three years of experience in an industrial laboratory environment, or a 4-year degree in a physical or life science.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; able to work well in both self-managed and team environments.
- Prior experience operating or supporting media mills is preferred.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
- Comfortable working with hazardous materials.
- Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products.
- Comfortable working with large machinery and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
