Laboratory Technician (Professional)

Title: Laboratory Technician
Location: Decatur IL 62526
Pay Rate: $20.50/hr.
Duration: 3-4 Months contract
Shift: Relief shift (Monday & Tuesday 3pm-11pm, Wednesday & Thursday 11pm-7am, sunday 7am-3pm and Off Friday and most Saturdays)

Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing process and finished product samples, performing analytical testing, recording test results, monitoring processes throughout the plant, and maintaining laboratory equipment. This position works closely with operations to support product quality, accurate testing, safety, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare process and finished product samples.
Perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures.
Record testing results using computerized data systems.
Perform daily process monitoring tests throughout the plant as assigned.
Maintain samples of tested product in order to confirm test results, if necessary.
Document results of all testing procedures and promptly notify operations of required adjustments.
Enter and report data using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Understand most production processes required in the production of product and may make recommendations to operators in order to achieve product quality.
Perform light maintenance and calibration on all laboratory equipment.
Maintain ongoing records of the results of all testing procedures and input such data into the computer on a daily basis.
Maintain adequate supplies used for testing procedures and notify the supervisor of the need to reorder such supplies.
Continually compare equipment readouts with samples of standards as required to ensure that all systems are operating accurately.
Maintain a neat and clean working area at all times, washing equipment as required and placing equipment in the proper storage areas.
Maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees.
Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment and successfully complete all safety certification requirements.
Maintain awareness of and adhere to all FDA, GMP, BATF, EPA, OSHA, and employer standards and guidelines.

Education/Training Preferred:
2 or more years science degree.

Experience Preferred:
Good attendance history.
Excellent safety record and awareness.
Demonstrates sufficient computer skills to utilize lab instrument operation programs.
Familiarity with current commercial software applications, including Excel and Word.
Experience with lab documentation.
Experience operating standard laboratory equipment, including pH meters, balances, and spectrophotometers.
Demonstrates sufficient math skills to perform calculations associated with lab testing.
Previous plant experience.
