General Job Information

Job Summary

This position is in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Vehicles Services Administration, Inspection Station. The mission of the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) is to promote the safe operation of motor vehicles and public safety while providing outstanding customer service. The position functions as Laborer and will be responsible for inspection of various types of motor vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform a variety of manual labor functions, such as general cleaning and housekeeping tasks that are applied by personal knowledge or from experience. Maintain the record room, offices, squad room, lavatories, boiler room, motor vehicle inspection lanes, vehicle parking lot, surrounding ground etc. Responsible for the proper use and care of all tools and/or equipment used.

Picks up debris on the grounds of the facility and maintains the lawn by using a mower. Utilizes a forklift that extends up to a height of sixteen (16) feet to replace a light. Operates power cleaning machines for waxing, polishing, or buffing, and adjust the brushes. Keep moving parts of equipment and machinery clean. Uses a 12 to 24 extension ladder to wash windows.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a garage type facility with inspection lanes open at each end, exposing the incumbent to the weather, vehicle temperatures, and vehicle exalt and gasoline fumes from the emissions test. Additionally, when working around the inspection equipment and machinery, the incumbent is exposed to danger of explosion or malfunction of hi-compression engines, hi-pressure hydraulic mechanisms and hoses, and auto air-conditioning compressors. Works with moving motor vehicles and/or vehicles operating at a high speed on the dynamometers, stationary and mobile equipment, and on concrete floors which becomes slippery from oil, engine coolant, and other liquids and solid residue. When working outside the incumbent is exposed to inclement weather, e.g., extreme heat and cold, rain, sleet, snow, etc. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of bruises, cuts, and scrapes.
