Mid-Level Land Use Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Land Use Associate to join a well-established, full-service law firm with a strong and growing real estate practice in Miami.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of sophisticated zoning and land use matters across South Florida, representing developers, investors, and property owners on high-impact projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle a broad spectrum of land use and zoning matters, including site plan approvals, variances, special exceptions, rezonings, and comprehensive plan amendments
  • Prepare applications, legal memoranda, and supporting documentation for submissions to local governments and regulatory bodies
  • Represent clients before municipal boards, zoning commissions, and other local agencies
  • Analyze and interpret zoning codes, land development regulations, and comprehensive plans
  • Review and interpret architectural drawings and site plans to support land use applications
  • Advise clients on development strategy, entitlements, and regulatory risks
  • Collaborate with developers, consultants, and government officials throughout the entitlement process

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • 3–5 years of experience in land use, zoning, and real estate development matters
  • Strong drafting, research, and advocacy skills
  • Experience appearing before local boards and municipal bodies
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and site plans
  • Familiarity with South Florida jurisdictions is required
  • Experience with historic preservation and environmental considerations is a plus
  • Licensed and in good standing in Florida

Additional Details:

  • Must be based in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami area
  • Hybrid schedule with at least 3 days per week in-office
