Malibu Nursery & Landscaping

Landscape Construction Manager

Location: Thousand Oaks, CA | On-site and at client properties

Employment Type: Full-time, W-2

Schedule: Monday-Friday, with flexibility for project needs

Compensation: 90,000-120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications

Lead high-end landscape construction projects, oversee skilled installation crews, and help deliver exceptional outdoor spaces from planning through completion.

Bring your landscape construction expertise and leadership experience to an established company where quality craftsmanship, careful project management, and attentive client service go hand in hand. You'll oversee landscape installation and hardscape projects, coordinate field crews, and ensure projects are completed efficiently, on budget, and to the high standards our residential clients expect.

About Malibu Nursery & Landscaping

Malibu Nursery & Landscaping has been operating for nearly 19 years and has approximately 55 employees. We specialize in landscape design, installation, maintenance, irrigation, and tree services for high-end residential properties.

Our team takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and building lasting client relationships. We're looking for an experienced construction leader who can oversee multiple landscape installation projects, guide crews in the field, and help strengthen the operational efficiency of our construction division.

About the Role

As our Landscape Construction Manager, you'll oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of residential landscape construction and installation projects. This includes hardscape installations, landscape improvements, and other project-based work.

You'll manage approximately two construction crews, potentially working across multiple job sites, while coordinating schedules, labor, materials, budgets, and project timelines.

Working closely with the owner, General Manager, and other departments, you'll help ensure projects run smoothly from initial planning through final completion. You'll combine hands-on field leadership with project management responsibilities, including estimating, budgeting, quality control, and client communication.

We're particularly interested in candidates who understand both the technical and operational sides of landscape construction. Experience overseeing landscape maintenance operations would be an additional advantage as the company continues to evaluate opportunities for broader operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee residential landscape construction, installation, and hardscape projects from planning through completion.
  • Supervise and coordinate approximately two field crews across one or multiple active job sites.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and installation requirements to ensure accurate execution.
  • Assist with project estimating, bidding, budgeting, and cost management.
  • Develop and manage construction schedules, crew assignments, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and resources to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Conduct regular job site visits to monitor workmanship, productivity, safety, and progress.
  • Provide clear direction, priorities, and technical guidance to field crews.
  • Monitor project budgets and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and minimize unnecessary costs.
  • Maintain quality control throughout the construction process and ensure completed work meets company and client expectations.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, estate managers, and other client representatives regarding project progress and expectations.
  • Identify and resolve construction challenges, scheduling conflicts, and operational issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with leadership, landscape designers, irrigation specialists, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth project coordination.
  • Support continuous improvements in construction processes, crew productivity, and overall project profitability.

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated experience managing landscape construction, installation, or hardscape projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of landscape construction methods, materials, equipment, and installation practices.
  • Proven ability to supervise field crews and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with project estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape construction plans and project specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and resolve field challenges while maintaining quality and productivity.
  • Effective communication skills and experience interacting professionally with clients and field personnel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between active job sites and provide hands-on field oversight.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and dependable follow-through.

Preferred

  • Experience managing landscape construction projects for high-end residential properties.
  • Background in hardscape installations, including patios, retaining walls, walkways, drainage, and related site improvements.
  • Experience overseeing multiple construction crews working at separate locations.
  • Familiarity with LMN or similar landscape estimating and project management software.
  • Experience working with landscape designers, irrigation teams, and specialized subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance operations and the ability to provide broader operational oversight when needed.
  • Demonstrated success improving project efficiency, cost control, and crew performance.
