Who We AreThe Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.The PositionLandscape Worker (Entry Level) supports the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Public Works team by helping maintain and improve landscaped areas and open spaces across RSIC. This role exists to provide hands-on training and work experience under a higher-skilled Landscape Supervisor, with growth potential as positions become available.Key responsibilities include assisting with landscape installation and upkeep; debris and weed removal; groundskeeping and minor building maintenance; mowing, trimming, edging, planting, watering, fertilizing, mulching, raking, pruning, and basic pest control; winter snow/ice removal; trimming hazardous limbs; occasional sprinkler system support; and, as needed, basic street maintenance support. You will read and follow procedure/equipment manuals, work safely with hand/power tools, and interact respectfully with staff and the public.Required qualifications:- High school diploma/GED; basic landscape experience preferred- Valid Nevada driver's license at appointment (CDL may be required)- Ability to read/write/speak English for the job and follow oral instructions- Reliable attendance; teamwork and communication skills- Able to perform sustained manual labor, lift up to 75 lbs, and work in varied weather- First Aid/CPR preferred; Indian Preference appliesPay: $17.84–$21.94/hour, full-time (30+ hours/week). Apply to be considered.A Typical ShiftYou'll report in, review the day's priorities with your lead, and head out to Colony sites with the crew. Early hours often focus on set-up, safety checks, and learning the right tool for the task-then rotating through different areas so you can build skills over time. Between sites, you'll check in on progress, keep work areas orderly, and document or review guidance from manuals when needed. Some days are steady, routine outdoor work; others change quickly due to weather, public needs, or seasonal demands. In winter, plans may shift to walkways and access points to keep areas safe.
