Core Responsibilities:
- Designate, review, and analyze lower court records and other documents for appeals.
- Monitor appellate dockets.
- Research and analyze case law.
- Draft persuasive appellate briefs, motions, applications, and related documents.
- Advocate in appellate courts before justices.
- Assist in-house and outside trial panel counsel in framing trial issues and preserving the record for appeal.
- Advise in-house and outside trial panel counsel and claims specialists on writ petitions.
- Prepare pleadings.
- Provide support to attorneys in litigation matters to try and arbitrate cases successfully.
- Formulate creative pleading and motion strategy.
- Obtain concurrence from claims specialists and attorneys on law and motion pleading and strategy.
- Attend court appearances and argue motions.
- Assist in compliance with defense attorney guidelines.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Licensed to practice law in California.
- Proficient in computer use.
- Knowledgeable in online legal research.
- Possess excellent legal writing skills.
- Able to work independently.
