Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced preventive maintenance, diagnostics, mechanical repairs, and electrical repairs on diesel and gasoline vehicles in accordance with Pafford Fleet Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist the Mechanic Director with daily shop priorities and workflow coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and assistance to mechanics regarding vehicle repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with reviewing completed repairs to ensure work is performed safely, accurately, and according to company standards.
  • Perform inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and road calls when requested.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC, brake, suspension, drivetrain, and other vehicle-related issues.
  • Assist mechanics with complex repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Assist with implementation of fleet maintenance procedures and programs established by the Mechanic Director.
  • Complete all required vehicle repair and maintenance documentation accurately, neatly, and timely, including labor hours, parts, and materials used.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate parts and material records.
  • Communicate vehicle status, repair concerns, and maintenance needs to the Mechanic Director and Operations leadership.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Operate company vehicles in accordance with company policy and safe driving practices.
  • Attend all mandatory training and meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Mechanic Director or Operations Manager.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Vehicles are repaired efficiently and maintained according to Pafford Fleet Policies and Procedures and applicable EMS standards.
  • Provides quality technical support and assistance to mechanics to promote safe and effective repairs.
  • Vehicle repairs and maintenance documentation are completed accurately and timely.
  • Vehicle downtime is minimized through effective troubleshooting and communication.
  • Maintenance concerns are communicated promptly to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with fleet, operations personnel, vendors, and other departments.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct, accountability, and leadership within the maintenance team.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and represents Pafford EMS positively.

Essential Equipment Used:

  • Telecommunication equipment and computers
  • Fleet maintenance software and electronic documentation systems
  • Personal hand tools
  • Vehicle shop equipment including, but not limited to:
    • Vehicle hoists and floor jacks
    • Diagnostic scan tools
    • Brake lathe
    • Tire balancer and mounting equipment
    • A/C recovery and recycling equipment
    • Pneumatic air tools
    • Miscellaneous shop tools 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of verifiable experience as an automotive, diesel, or fleet mechanic.
  • Prior experience with emergency vehicles, ambulances, or commercial fleet maintenance preferred.
  • Previous lead mechanic or mentoring experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of automotive and diesel repair, diagnostics, electrical systems, HVAC, braking systems, and drivetrain components.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
  • Must have a complete set of personal tools.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, repair documents, and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality regarding company matters.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.

 Physical Requirements:

      ·  Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in various positions for extended periods while performing vehicle repairs and maintenance.

      ·  Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and vehicle parts weighing up to 75 pounds.

      ·  Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.

      ·  Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, noise, vehicle fluids, and outdoor weather.

      ·  Ability to perform work under vehicles and in confined spaces as required.

      ·  Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.

     ·  Must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable   accommodation.
