General Summary of the Position:
The Lead Software Engineer is directly responsible for the technical leadership and delivery of the Firm's next-generation Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and its supporting infrastructure. The position requires performing a wide range of responsibilities related to software architecture, full-stack development, cloud infrastructure, data and system integration, security, and production support for enterprise applications that serve the Firm's highway and infrastructure maintenance operations. This role owns the architecture and end-to-end delivery of a three-layer geospatial (Esri ArcGIS), work-management, and agentic-AI platform, operating as part of a small, AI-native engineering team in which each engineer is equipped with AI coding tools as a force-multiplier rather than a side tool. The Lead Software Engineer sets and enforces engineering standards, mentors mid-level engineers, and coordinates directly with the Director of Engineering Technology and business stakeholders. It is required to have a technical background in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. The ideal candidate must have proven experience leading the design and delivery of secure, reliable, production software; sound judgment about when reliability and security outweigh interface polish; meticulous organizational skills; adaptive, analytical problem-solving capabilities; and the ability to build and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
