The called teacher is authorized and obligated to instruct and train the children under his or her care diligently and faithfully in the Word of God and to accord them also a thorough Christian education in branches of learning prescribes by a course of study adopted ad approved by the Congregation. Maintain Christian discipline in the school and to this end employ such means as are in accord with the Holy Scriptures and within the bounds of Christian reason and justice. Primary Responsibilities Work closely with the administration to promote and keep a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, creative and God-fearing school culture. Instruct and train all children using God's Word as a foundation Schedule daily lessons
Maintain open communication with the parents Build and maintain a positive relationship with the parents Build and maintain a positive relationship with the students Work with and refer to the Administration any children with unmet needs Work with and refer to the Administration any potential situations with parents/guardians Be knowledgeable in your responsibilities Proactively circulating throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture Ensuring healthy parental communication and involvement as well as meeting with parents when discipline issues move beyond the scope of the classroom teacher
Implementing and managing school procedures to track and communicate student achievement and challenges, including Honor Roll, failures, merit and rubric awards, attendance, retention, and student improvement. Report all serious discipline issues of any kind to school before taking any action
Qualifications Synodical certification or the willingness to pursue synodical certification. Bachelor's degree is required Holds or is willing to pursue state certification. Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom Agreement and alignment with Atonement's core beliefs and educational philosophy. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members Understanding of the nuances of urban school environments and school culture Must be an active member, in good standing, at Atonement Lutheran Church
Supervision Teachers report to the school Principal. Teachers will also work collaboratively with the Administrative Team.
