Freeport SD, Lawrence SD, Plainedge SD, Uniondale SD and Westbury SD

The St. Joseph\s University Universal Prekindergarten Programs is seeking Lead Teachers for our UPK Programs. St Joseph's UPK provides high quality prekindergarten services to 5 districts in Long Island. St. Joseph\s UPK utilizes the Co-teaching model and this experience will count toward professional hours for NYS Certifications. Salaries for Lead Teachers are around $230 per day. No benefits are offered. This position is part time, follows the district school calendar and pre-k school day.

Duties and Responsibilities

\t

• Planning, developing, and implementing the age-appropriate curriculum.

\t

• Devising and imparting lesson plans on a daily basis

\t

• Set up interest centers and prepare instructional material.

\t

• Instruct and supervise children in social and developmental activities

\t

• Supervise students within the classroom and during recreational activities.

\t

• Provide an environment of comfort and security for young students by indulging in nurturing behavior.

\t

• Guide and help handle remedial work activities in either small groups or 1:1.

\t

• Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities.

\t

• Enforce cleanup activities after centers and lunchtime by modeling appropriate behavior and reinforcement songs.

\t

• Observe students for changes in behavior and report findings to your co teacher, site supervisor and director.

\t

• Evaluate students with informal and formal assessments.

\t

• Supervise students during field trips to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

\t

• Organize and supervise gross motor activities during outdoor/indoor recess.

\t

• Collaborate with Site Supervisor about student record keeping, filing, teacher made materials and photocopying activities.

\t

• Provide input on the overall progress of a student consistently and during parent-teacher meetings/conferences.

\t

• Provide one-on-one support to young students, such as helping them write their names or learning initial counting.

Requirements

\t

• NYSED Teacher Certification in N-6 or B-2 (Masters preferred)

\t

• At least 6 credits in a Master Program toward education.

\t

• Experience working with children in a school or recreational setting
