Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP is hiring a Legal Assistant with Mass Torts experience to support attorneys at their Austin, Texas office. The candidate will work closely with litigation attorneys to prosecute the cases from client intake through filing and discovery.Legal Assistants will work on large and overly complex cases. This role is an exciting learning opportunity with room for advancement for those that demonstrate the work ethic and ability to thrive in this environment.Previous experience with handling complex litigation, such as environmental cases, pharmaceutical/medical device cases, sexual abuse/human trafficking cases, and/or catastrophic injury cases are an added plus.Supervisor ResponsibilitiesNoneEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCase Management: Assist attorneys in managing litigation cases by organizing and maintaining case files, documents, and correspondence.Document Preparation: Prepare, format, edit and proofread legal documents such as letters, pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and subpoenas.Court Filings: Assist with the preparation and filing of court documents. This includes drafting and filing documents with the court, scheduling court appearances, coordinating with court personnel, and tracking filing deadlines.Communication: Draft communication on behalf of the attorneys as needed. Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the litigation process.Calendar Management: Maintain attorneys' calendars, schedule appointments, and arrange meetings. Coordinate with clients, witnesses, and other parties to ensure everyone's availability and participation.Billing and Timekeeping: Track attorneys' billable hours and expenses related to litigation matters. Prepare invoices, review billing statements, and ensure accurate and timely submission to clients.Administrative Support: Managing expenses as needed. Coordinating travel arrangements for attorneys attending out-of-town hearings or depositions, managing registration and planning for conferences.Software and Database Management: Utilize legal software and databases for document management, case tracking, and timekeeping purposes.This job description reflects Firm management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.Qualifications & RequirementsEducationA high school diploma or GED is required.Paralegal Certificate or associate or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field preferred.Legal Knowledge & ExperienceA minimum of 2 years work experience providing legal administrative support.A high-level understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and litigation processes is essential.Proficiency with Bloomberg, Westlaw, LexisNexis File & Serve, Pacer, and electronic filing procedures (both federal and state).Administrative SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office for efficient document management and communication.Excel experience at a mid – expert level (including a high-level proficiency with vlookups, formulas and pivot tables).Excellent typing skills (60 wpm).Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments effectively.Attention to detail for proofreading legal documents and maintaining accurate records.Communication SkillsClear and effective written and verbal communication skills are vital.Able to draft professional correspondence, communicate with clients and colleagues, and maintain confidentiality when managing sensitive information.Schedule RequirementsWillingness and availability to work overtime when needed.Ability to work in-office 4 days/week and 1 day remotely.Physical RequirementsTyping and Data Entry: Adept with the use of computers to manage schedules, financial records, and communications.
