Kjar, McKenna & Stockalper, LLP, a South Bay civil defense firm, is seeking a highly organized and adaptable Legal Assistant to support multiple attorneys and legal teams across the Firm. This position is ideal for a litigation legal assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their workload, and can quickly adjust to changing priorities and team needs.The Legal Assistant serves as a critical resource by providing litigation and administrative support where needed, assisting with workload balancing, vacation coverage, medical leave coverage, new file assignments, and special projects. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of seamlessly integrating into different practice groups while maintaining a high level of professionalism and client service.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide litigation support to attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants across multiple practice groupsAssist with coverage for legal assistants during vacations, leaves of absence, and high-volume periodsManage attorney calendars, schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and meetingsPrepare, revise, proofread, and format legal documents and correspondenceFile pleadings and legal documents in California state and federal courtsCoordinate service of process and document serviceOpen new files and maintain electronic and physical case filesAssist with discovery, subpoenas, and trial preparationCommunicate professionally with clients, insurance carriers, experts, vendors, opposing counsel, and court personnelMonitor deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and firm proceduresSupport special projects and administrative initiatives as assignedSkills & QualificationsMinimum of 3 years of litigation legal assistant experience, preferably in civil defenseStrong knowledge of California state and federal court proceduresExperience with e-filing in California courtsExceptional organizational and time management skillsAbility to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneouslyStrong attention to detail and follow-throughExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe AcrobatExperience with ProLaw or similar case management software preferredAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentProfessional demeanor and strong client-service mindsetPreferred AttributesFlexible and adaptable to changing assignments and prioritiesPositive attitude and willingness to assist wherever neededAbility to quickly learn attorney preferences and workflow processesStrong problem-solving skills and sound judgmentCommitment to teamwork and supporting firm-wide operational needsAny offer of employment with Kjar, McKenna & Stockalper, LLP is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
