This recruitment is to establish a register for current and future legal secretary vacancies which serves all levels/assignments of legal secretary in the offices of the Pima County Attorney's Office.

In direct support of legal functions, the legal secretary performs a variety of specialized legal secretarial tasks, which require distinct knowledge of legal procedures, documentation and legal time constraints. This classification makes independent decisions regarding the processing of legal documents and has primary responsibility for completion of assigned tasks and functions by an attorney or paralegal.

Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of course work in legal terminology or legal office procedures from an accredited school AND one year of legal clerical experience involving the preparation and processing of legal documents or providing legal clerical support to an attorney.
(An Associate's degree or a certificate of completion from an accredited college or technical school as a legal secretary may substitute for one year of experience.)
OR:
One year with Pima County in a Legal Processing Support or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems. Frequently speaks to clients, witnesses, and other case involved parties, such as law enforcement agencies, in-person and/or on the phone. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves about inside an office. Occasionally must lift and carry items. Regularly works in a professional office setting.
Working Conditions: Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position. The Legal Secretary regularly receives and responds to telephone calls and emails. Action Activity - reaching; Motion Activity - grasping and fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, behind themselves; Speaking Activity - in person and on the phone; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, distinguish colors, have depth perception, have peripheral vision.
