    Job Description

    Forest Lawn is looking for a Licensed Embalmer to join the team of like-minded individuals who are talented, caring, and compassionate about this unique and noble profession.     What You'll Be Doing

    • Process and conduct proper case analysis on decedents.
    • Conduct disinfection through external application of antiseptics and fluids.
    • Embalm decedents with appropriate authorizations to ensure proper disinfectant preservation and appearance. Use all proper embalming instruments and machinery.
    • Dress and apply cosmetics in accordance with the wishes of the client family; conduct restorative art as needed.
    • Place decedent in casket using electric lift.
    • Meet with client families and ensure their requests have been fulfilled regarding appearance, make adjustments as needed.
    • Wrap and prepare un-embalmed remains for cremation or other dispositions.
    • Conduct inspection to ensure decedent is suitable for final disposition in accordance with Forest Lawn policies and procedures.
    • Place decedent in visitation room and set up complying with the client families' requests and religious traditions.
    • Conduct first calls.
    • Properly complete and maintain all necessary paperwork to comply with all applicable laws and Forest Lawn policies and procedures.
    • Assist with the disinterment of human remains as requested.
    • Stock and clean preparation room and cooling unit. Maintain the cleanliness of the mortuary building and restrooms when needed.
    • Maintain jewelry log book, order supplies. May lead quality control meetings.
    • Instruct and oversee the work of Apprentice Embalmers on cases and documentation.
    • Maintain a safe work environment and abide by all safety standards. Attend all safety and SDS meetings. Wear proper clothing and equipment at all times.
    • Maintain positive relationships with all Forest Lawn employees and foster a teamwork environment.
    • Other duties as needed.
    • Current valid California Embalmer License.
    • Completed apprenticeship and licensed to perform duties as a Licensed Embalmer defined by the state of California.
    • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school within Mortuary Science or Embalming.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Valid California Driver's License
    • Ability to lift 100lbs.
    • Able to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
    • Able to work independently with little supervision.

    Drug Testing Policy

    Prior to beginning employment, all job applicants who receive a job offer will be required to voluntarily submit to a drug screening test conducted by a laboratory designated by Forest Lawn. The drug screening method is a hair collection test that will detect the use of illegal drugs within the past 90 days. A positive drug test may result in the withdrawal of the job offer.

    Forest Lawn has registered to participate in the federal government's E-Verify program. With E-Verify we are able to confirm the employment authorization of all newly hired employees through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
