Job Description

Matrix Providers is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse: Pediatric to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at 633 Medical Group, Langley Air Force Base, VA..

  • Employment Status: Full-Time
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position, paid bi-weekly
    • $28-30/hour plus H&W $5.09
  • Schedule: Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0630 and 1800 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for nine (9) hours, to include an uncompensated sixty (60) minute meal break. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.

Requirements: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN)must have and meet the following:

  • Degree: Certificate.
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university, or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the Commission on Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA). Must have successfully completed all education and training requirements leading to and graduated from an accredited national, state or military equivalent school for Practical Nursing NCLEX-LPN
  • Certification: BLS, PALS, ACLS
  • Experience: One year of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation. Additional Requirements: Practiced as an LPN performing hands-on patient care in an
    outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months, experience in
    gynecology/obstetrics preferred
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse.

Core Duties:
• Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient
populations.
• Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in
selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and
accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
• Observe, identify and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication,
equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous,
intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established
policies/procedures.
• Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or
MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed

Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or
procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination,
preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and
monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure.
• Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and
standards of practice.
• Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare
delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.
• Serve as a Practical Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for
outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and
guidelines.
• Monitor and record age appropriate physiological measurements.
• Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
• Provide individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative
healthcare and health maintenance.
• Perform appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical
procedures.
• Record treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects.
• Identify and record patient problems and appropriately notify provider/nursing Team of
observations.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies. Perform basic life support measures.
• Perform appropriate portions of physical examinations including age appropriate
physical measurements.
• Adhere to infection control procedures; including use of personal protective equipment,
disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.
• Perform central sterile supply duties.
• Ensure all equipment is properly assembled, operational, cleaned, and stored at the end
of each work shift. Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed
as directed.
• Perform medical records reviews and apply appropriate protocols and guidelines to
determine medical needs.
• Maintain patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.
• Participate in training and continuing education programs for new procedures,
techniques, and equipment.
• Establish and maintain appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with
coworkers, families, peers, and other team members
• Perform other task and administrative work (peer review,) within nursing scope of
practice in the clinic. Serve and participate in committees, functions, and other meetings
as directed by clinic leadership. Provide relevant and timely information to these groups
and assist with decision-making and process improvement. Participate in customer
service initiatives and medical readiness activities designed to enhance health services

Proficiency in MHS GENESIS is desirable.
• Apply the nursing process in care of patients. Demonstrates sound assessment and
clinical decision-making skills. Maintain currency of skills through ongoing in-service
training and continuing education.
