Job Description

Lighting Controls Specialist
Xico Lighting | 3LED Group — Woburn, MA
Full-time | On-site

Electricians, electrical technicians, electronics technicians, and lighting controls professionals are encouraged to apply. An engineering degree is not required. The ability to create engineering wiring diagrams and clear installation instructions is essential.

Make advanced architectural lighting work reliably—from the test bench to the finished installation.

Xico Lighting is looking for a hands-on Lighting Controls Specialist with practical electrical experience and a strong ability to wire, test, and troubleshoot lighting systems. You will take ownership of selecting, integrating, testing, and documenting controls solutions for our architectural LED lighting products, working directly with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.

If you have installed lighting, wired control panels, tested electrical assemblies, diagnosed wiring faults, or commissioned dimming and control systems, we want to hear from you. Relevant backgrounds include electricians, electrical and electronics technicians, field service technicians, commissioning technicians, lighting controls specialists, and applications engineers. Practical ability, sound electrical judgment, and a willingness to develop deeper lighting controls expertise matter most.

What you will own:
  • Driver and controls selection: Evaluate LED drivers, power supplies, dimmers, sensors, and control interfaces. Match constant-current and constant-voltage light engines with appropriate components, considering electrical ratings, dimming performance, thermal limits, reliability, and application requirements.
  • System integration: Develop and validate solutions using 0–10V, phase-cut dimming, DALI, DMX, and wireless or networked lighting controls. Configure drivers and controls, verify interoperability, and support tunable-white, dim-to-warm, and dynamic lighting applications.
  • Practical testing and troubleshooting: Build test setups and prototypes. Investigate flicker, unstable or uneven dimming, low-end dropout, pop-on, wiring faults, and communication issues. Use measurements to identify root causes and confirm solutions.
  • Engineering wiring diagrams and installation instructions: Create and maintain accurate fixture and system wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and connection drawings using CAD or suitable technical drawing software. Clearly identify drivers, controls, sensors, connectors, terminals, wire specifications, polarity, grounding, and control connections as applicable. Write clear, illustrated installation instructions for contractors and customers, plus assembly and test instructions for production. Verify documentation against actual product configurations and test builds, and maintain revisions as products change.
  • Production support: Help technicians assemble, configure, and test fixtures correctly. Improve test methods, resolve electrical and controls issues, and work with Quality and Engineering on corrective actions and component changes.
  • Supplier and customer support: Work directly with driver and controls manufacturers, sales teams, contractors, and customers to resolve application questions and field issues. Translate technical requirements into practical product configurations.
  • Product development: Help define electrical and controls requirements for new products and support safety certification activities with the engineering team.

What you bring:
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in electrical installation, wiring, electrical or electronics testing, maintenance, commissioning, or troubleshooting. Experience with lighting, LED drivers, dimmers, or control systems is particularly valuable.
  • A solid practical understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, safe working practices, wiring, connections, and electrical fault finding. Familiarity with dimmers, LED drivers, sensors, or lighting controls is preferred; knowledge of every protocol is not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engineering wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and connection drawings—not just read them—using CAD or suitable technical drawing software. You must also be able to interpret component specifications and verify drawings against working systems.
  • Confidence using a multimeter to check voltage, current, continuity, and electrical operation. Experience with configuration or commissioning tools, oscilloscopes, or power measurement is a plus.
  • Ability to write clear, technically accurate installation instructions, including wiring connections, installation steps, component identification, and relevant safety information, for electrical contractors and customers.
  • Ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to follow a problem through to a verified solution.
  • An engineering degree is not required. We value relevant trade experience, apprenticeships, vocational or technical training, and demonstrated electrical skills. Electrical or electronics qualifications and engineering degrees are also welcome.

Additional experience we value:
Experience with platforms such as Lutron, Casambi, nLight, or similar systems; DALI addressing or DMX configuration; occupancy and daylight sensors; emergency lighting; driver programming; or UL/ETL product testing and certification support. You do not need experience with every protocol or platform listed.

Why Xico Lighting:
You will work close to the products, with direct access to engineering and manufacturing and a visible impact on how our lighting performs. This role offers the opportunity to become a key technical resource for controls compatibility, product integration, and application support across an architectural lighting portfolio. Xico Lighting is part of 3LED Group, bringing together expertise in architectural lighting, LED light engines, drivers, controls, and optical technologies. Our Woburn team develops and manufactures lighting systems that combine optical performance, thoughtful design, and practical integration.

How to Apply:
Please submit your resume and briefly describe an electrical, wiring, lighting, or controls project you have worked on: what you installed, tested, or repaired, your contribution, and a problem you helped solve. Examples from trade, field service, manufacturing, or commissioning work are welcome. Please also describe the wiring diagrams and installation instructions you have created and the drawing tools you use. If available, include a non-confidential sample or be prepared to discuss your documentation during an interview.
