Location

Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.

Job Summary

The Department of Natural Sciences at Albany State University invites applications for a Limited Term Faculty position in Forensic Science. The successful candidate will provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in Forensic Science, including introductory and laboratory-based courses, while supporting student success, academic advisement, curriculum delivery, and departmental activities. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of students pursuing careers and advanced study in forensic science, the natural sciences, criminal justice, and related fields.

The base teaching load is 15 credit hours. Additional teaching assignments may be available based on departmental needs and course scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in undergraduate Forensic Science courses, including introductory, laboratory-based, and discipline-specific courses.

• Prepare and deliver lectures, laboratory exercises, demonstrations, assessments, and other instructional activities consistent with course and program learning objectives.

• Evaluate and document student learning, progress, and performance.

• Provide academic advisement and guidance related to the Forensic Science curriculum, course sequencing, and student progression.

• Engage students in meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

• Support experiential, laboratory, research, and career-oriented learning opportunities when appropriate.

• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, program activities, recruitment, and other service responsibilities.

• Collaborate with faculty and departmental leadership on curriculum development, course delivery, and continuous improvement.

• Maintain appropriate professional knowledge and currency in forensic science and related STEM disciplines.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Masters degree or higher in Forensic Science or a STEM discipline from an accredited institution.

• A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in Forensic Science and/or related STEM disciplines.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts and engage undergraduate students in classroom and laboratory settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, or a closely related STEM discipline.

• At least 18 graduate semester hours in Forensic Science and/or Chemistry.

• College-level teaching experience, particularly in laboratory-based science courses.

• Demonstrated ability to teach discipline-specific forensic science courses, such as:

• Serology and/or Forensic Biology

• Forensic Chemistry

• Forensic Photography

• Crime Scene Investigation

• Trace Evidence

• Forensic Toxicology

• DNA Analysis/Forensic Genetics

• Other specialized forensic science courses.

• Experience developing or managing undergraduate laboratory activities.

• Professional experience, research experience, or applied expertise in forensic science or a related STEM discipline.

• Experience mentoring students in research, internships, experiential learning, or preparation for graduate/professional programs.
