Job Description

Frost Law is a growing, full-service law firm based in Annapolis, Maryland We provide sophisticated legal counsel in areas including tax, business, estates, bankruptcy, litigation, and more. Our litigation team handles a diverse caseload ranging from federal and state tax disputes to complex commercial matters. We are seeking a motivated Litigation Associate with 2–8 years of experience to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in tax controversy and litigation practice, with experience managing cases from inception through resolution. While a significant portion of the caseload will involve tax litigation — including Employee Retention Credit (ERC) disputes and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) matters — the associate will also have the opportunity to work on a wide range of civil and commercial litigation cases. This position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth, client interaction, and courtroom exposure in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of tax controversy and litigation matters, including ERC refund and disallowance disputes, PEO and employment tax matters, IRS and state examinations, collection matters, and related commercial litigation.
  • Handle cases from intake through administrative resolution, settlement, trial, or appeal, including proceedings before the U.S. Tax Court, federal district courts, and state tax tribunals.
  • Represent clients in IRS and state taxing authority audits, appeals, and refund claims.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, protests, discovery requests/responses, motions, and briefs.
  • Take and defend depositions, including parties, experts, and key fact witnesses.
  • Negotiate resolutions with the IRS, state taxing authorities, opposing counsel, and other parties.
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trial proceedings.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and clear legal analysis to clients.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff to deliver exceptional client service.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • 2–8 years of litigation experience (tax controversy/ERC experience are a plus).
  • U.S. Tax Court admission, or eligibility and willingness to be admitted, a plus.
  • An LL.M. in Taxation or equivalent tax background a plus, but not required.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously with attention to detail.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Commitment to professionalism, client service, and advocacy.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO).
  • Opportunities for trial experience and professional development.
  • Supportive, team-oriented work environment with experienced mentors.
